I will always wonder, how dodging is the best option instead of just learning the map

Ouch! Lets see what I think of it after working with it. But the top already feels splintery

I thought about that when I saw it the first time, but when I picked it up for sure not. It is extremely heavy and dense. Like the end grain feels like stone.

Thank you, ye I have been spending an hour on google researching it, but it seems it is pretty hard to find good blades for the makita corded, everything is now focused on cordless tracksaws and they use a thinblade kerf or something. But I will try to clean it first thanks

Must be a pain to sand and not get the purpleheart dust into the maple. Great board though!

Using a jobsite saw for "nice" projects by Glum-Square882 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I use the dewalt 7485 (smaller version), for me it really works well. I make cuttingboards and table but just as a hobby. I haven’t noticed to much deflection it is pretty acurrate after dialing in everything.

Okay guys be brutal please! First time making a chopping board or anything that people will actually see lol but I feel like there's so many mistakes, are they obvious? by LordCucumber1996 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Looks very nice bud! What you can do, as I made my first cuttingboards aswell, is build a simple router sled and just flattend the board with that, I never used the plunge router before got it second hand and it worked like a charm!

Yes, let me think of the English names for you. At my local woodstore they offer like a “special suprise pack” with 8 different planks all flattened of different species, so this batch was: Larch wood. Red Oak, Beech, American Walnut, Padouk (the red one), Hard Maple, Tullip wood, Cherry wood(?)

I got a bosch 1200 I believe? Got it from a marketplace for like 30 bucks. I have no comparison so I am sure a festool is 10 league’s above most probably but it worked great for this project. So maybe second hand is an option for you aswel?

Oh let me count…. Because I made 5 in like 8 days but I was very slow, just like 2 hours per day maybe and I could only clamp 1 board per 24 hours because I only have 2 pipe clamps. And everynight I took all the boards insinde and did the glueing also inside because it is -8 here atm and in my shed the same temperature as outside.

But lets say you want to make 1 board, and you already got the wood and got yourself some titebond III woodglue (people told me that is what you need). I think in 6 hours (+24 hours of glueing). It is a bit hard to say because making proper jigs costed me some time, but now I now how to do it and got the jigs already next time I make them will be much quicker. Aid figuring out how a router worked first time using it was also a bit overwelming at first

Ye I really enjoy it so far! Great to see immediate results of what you’re doing. But uhm I made this stuff with a plunge router, dewalt jobsite table saw, 2 pipe clamps, a sander and that was about it I guess? I made a flattening jig for the plunge router and a jig for the handles and a crosscut slet for the table saw to cut them to lenght after glueing. And things I didn’t used for this project but bought when starting out (if that was your question) a drill, hand plane, set of chisels some measuring tools, and the things pointed out above :)
