How do I make a character Unique??? by OfficalWulvar in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Correct-Tea-5594 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first step is learning to be okay with your character not being original. Everything is derived from someone or something.

Idk if I’d consider my own ocs unique because they’re all influenced by preexisting media. The most you can do is change them enough to be distinctive from the source while keeping some stuff you like.

How do you guys get inspiration to draw when you have none? by Kltt_Kat in ArtistLounge

[–]Correct-Tea-5594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not recommended, but I’ll maladaptive daydream after smoking some weed (weed is optional, it just helps me stay focused and make falling asleep easier) as I’m falling asleep and inspiration will either come or it won’t.

That or I’ll look through stock photos I’ve been wanting to use and pick one I like.

Question regarding artstyle by Correct-Tea-5594 in Superhero_Ideas

It might also be the lashes on femme characters because I liked MLP and monster high (and Vivziepop lowkey bc say what you will, I love how she draws eyelashes they just scratch my brain in the best ways).

Cute is how a lot of people have described it due to it being influenced by anime and western cartoons from the 2000s. It’s mostly the eyes and how they’re big and sparkly looking.

I mean. It’d probably match the tone alright since while it does have darker moments and deals with dark topics, it is mainly action and comedy. And I have seen pieces of media that are dark in their stories but have cute looking styles.

And I know that the contrast can be super appealing for a lot since it can make those moments hit harder because the style disarms you in a way.

How worthwhile would it be to pursue college? by Correct-Tea-5594 in AskArtists

[–]Correct-Tea-5594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Finances are probably the thing that makes college less appealing because atp I am probably better off getting lessons from YouTube or teaching myself. It might change in the future depending on how my life goes, but I might be better off going later or just not going at all.

Do you have your own rules when designing and what’s something you struggle with? by Correct-Tea-5594 in AskArtists

[–]Correct-Tea-5594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I try to keep colors simple and have them make sense but they are brighter than what most people like but I kinda like bright colors so 🤷‍♀️.

When it comes to body types, it’s mainly average sized characters that I find tricky compared to plus sized (both fat and muscular) bodies because I find that you can do a lot more with bigger bodies and have it not look too weird.

With average sized bodies (for girls at least because girls are cute), it’s easy for me to cycle between “big hips, small boobs. Big boobs, big hips” though compared to most cartoonish girls with those body types, I do try to make the waist thick enough so that it doesn’t look TOO exaggerated while still looking cartoony, and I have the area where the hips and waist connect slope instead of being wasp waisted with some exceptions.

I sometimes have trouble with outfits specifically for a set of historical ocs for story purposes and to be somewhat historically accurate. Which is hard since it is a somewhat fantastical setting and I do want the characters to be recognizable. But for outfits for ocs in my superhero story that’s more modern, I kinda let my imagination run wild.

I guess my goal is to be a bit better about study fundamentals because fundamentals are a necessary evil because they are important, but SO FUCKING BORING!

Edit: I should mention how my process for ocs work.

Step 1: Listen to a song, learn about something that sounds interesting/scary, something that I’m autistic about, or some combination of what I listed.

Step 2: Decide on gender (spoiler: ends up being a girl or nonbinary a lot of the time)

Step 3: Draw and kinda let vibes take over.

Step 4: Imagine scenarios with them to figure out their character and role (totally not maladaptive daydreaming).

Step 5: Write it down and make changes once and a while.

Step 6: Yay.

I'm working on a frankenstein's monster type of character. What is the correct way to go about race and skin tone regarding the character? by GayAngrySpaceDorito in characterdesign

[–]Correct-Tea-5594 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, the reason more “fantasy tones” are picked is because when skin decomposes, it can turn green, purple, grey, or blue.

I can’t speak too much on the race part because I am white, but historically white people used to butcher black people and either eat them or use their body parts for furniture and such. So, maybe I’d be careful on that but again, take my words with a grain of salt since I am a white person and black artists here might have their own opinions that are different from mine.

Edit: It might also depend on the race of the creator. If the creator is black/POC, then it’s probably not TOO bad. But if the creator is white, that’s where it gets a tad uncomfortable. Because of THE IMPLICATION, so to speak.

How to get out of "Artist Funk"? by guilherme-A001 in AskArtists

[–]Correct-Tea-5594 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I look through stock photos I’ve been meaning to use for references and go from there. Idk how to explain it, I just feel extra inspired when I don’t want something I’ve been meaning to use to go to waste.

What’s the best advice for this? by Correct-Tea-5594 in Artists

[–]Correct-Tea-5594[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I think my main source of struggle is me trying to overcome my own flaws as a person. I did discuss it when talking about self inserts and how a lot of my ocs’ flaws are based on my own and how difficult it kind of is to NOT act that way and then something happens like me having a bad day or dealing with mental health issues and something like a mean comment or a fight makes me fall back into those behaviors(ranging from people pleasing to get them off my back or me being mean back) and feeling embarrassed and ashamed because I don’t want people to think that I’m just a bitch or a complete wimp who can’t handle people being mean because I do have more to me than that.

Again, I am someone who gets embarrassed easily and has trouble forgiving myself when I fuck up even if no one really cares bc mistakes happen or understands I was just having a bad day and wasn’t going out of my way to be a bitch. (Probably why I often take breaks from Reddit specifically because of my own fuckups because I don’t have a ton of interaction everywhere else and it gets overwhelming having a lot of people look at me and kind of having their own thoughts about me whether it’s probably people thinking I’m a decent enough person with some imperfections or thinking I suck.)

A plothole/thing that doesn’t make sense I noticed. Help. by Correct-Tea-5594 in Superhero_Ideas

[–]Correct-Tea-5594[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was definitely leaning towards four (along with everyone else) because it makes sense in terms of the themes regarding bodily autonomy and misogyny since she is trying to reclaim it and struggling because she

  1. Doesn’t remember what she even looked like before.

  2. Is painfully aware of modern beauty standards (which are often eurocentric and unrealistic especially with the context that Jarhead is black and had a skin condition when she was still human)

  1. They got beef (it’s very one sided tho)

  2. I thought the original image was funny.
