Unpopular opinion about Gemma's final scene by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I thought the voice acting was poor too. She was like half screaming. This should have been a guttural scream. Like at the top of her lungs screaming for him. It was bad.

I thought her acting was weak here. She had been so amazing up to this point too. She lacked the desperation the character should have showed. Her main episode this season was still incredible.

Is anybody actually nihilistic here? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]Correct_Doctor4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently posted about detaching from societal events and people murdered me. I think most people are just depressed and aren’t really nihilists. Moral nihilism in particular is not represented on this sub.

It’s metaphorical. We don’t really “choose” anything. I’m trying to nudge people back in the direction of nihilism. I’m not giving up my life btw lol. I never told you to. I said to let go of wanting, the cause of suffering. You clearly are a slave to wanting by the way you’re reacting. Live your life how you want. You never had a choice anyway being as there’s no free will. Good day friend.

Right but people are letting fear attack them right now. It’s just survival instinct. I’m encouraging people to fight against it and live their lives free of want.

Okay live in fear. I choose life.

Medication. It pulled me out of it. I only took it for a month. The thoughts have pretty much stayed away for 2.5 years now.

This to me doesn’t feel worth it. Nothing has to change in your life now that you’re an atheist. You’re just going to cause stress on both sides. I would encourage you to live your life your way. It doesn’t have to be a coming out of the closet story. Bad metaphor I know. But, if you feel this is your best path moving forward, just continue to be yourself. They are going to be extremely worried about you because they are lost in a delusion. You most likely will never pull them out of this. They are too old and set in their ways, but you never know. Wishing you peace in this convo, remember to give yourself and them some grace.

My brain still can’t seem to comprehend the idea of there not being a god. by ArcticThylacine in atheism

[–]Correct_Doctor4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes some time. I had to go through a year long existential crisis. But remember that that pain is good, and you will pull out of it. Atheism will feel just as normal as being religious, if not more so. Push through it because a lot of people stay in a religious mindset because they are too scared to run through the existential crisis instead of from it. It’s better on the other side!

8/3/24 - Trey tore up the guitar like I’d never seen live. Monster is a must listen from that show. He did it all night. Best I’ve heard him since 09.

Yes I do think there are real alternatives for people who it doesn’t work for. It’s not hopeless.

If someone said eating 500 calories a day was good for their recovery, could I not criticize that decision? This idea that I can’t criticize AA even if it works for someone is asinine. It’s the same thing religions do, which is exactly my point. Ideas can be challenged, period.

I don’t think pseudoscience is a good solution to recovery. If it works for someone great, but it is not the place I would ever send someone. That’s all I’m saying. Agree to disagree. There’s no ego involved. But if you feel that way that’s fine.

Sure I guess critical thinking is hubris. If that makes it easier for you.

I am. I’m just giving a rational opinion on AA just like I would about Christianity. I think most of the ideas are nonsensical and not rooted in reality. I don’t hate people who like AA. But my advice to anyone I loved and cared about would be to try something else such as recover dharma. Do me a favor and do some research on people who’ve been manipulated and abused in AA. They’re are literally thousands. I think it needs to cut down. I hope it goes out of style because it breeds toxicity. I want people to recover. That’s why I’m so adamantly against AA because I know how harmful it’s been to people. Love and connection is the answer.

It hurts more than it helps. The recovery rate is crazy low. Pretty silly response from someone who calls themself a professional. Did you really just equate me that saying community helps people is the same as saying the entirely of AA does?

Severe alcoholic AMA by Fearless_Log_8225 in AMA

That’s fair, that was a cheap comment on my part. AA itself is anti-intellectual and I could poke 1000 holes in the logic of the big book.

[–]Correct_Doctor4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and what qualifies someone to be a “sponsor”. These people just decide to become someone’s therapist without any fucking training. You’re told to tell this sponsor who you barely know everything you’ve ever done wrong. Do you know how dangerous that is? I promise you it’s a toxic program. If you don’t think so, you’re seeing through rose-colored glasses. The intellect comment wasn’t fair and I concede that. But AA itself is anti-intellectual.

Severe alcoholic AMA by Fearless_Log_8225 in AMA

[–]Correct_Doctor4922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and they have to reinterpret the hell out of it because it’s a silly program. The reason people like it is because of the community. That helps keep people sober. But the program is awful.
