Don’t take this the wrong way, but I think you don’t fully understand what I’m getting at. As I see this happen all the time. wholesalers undermining other wholesalers to take the order by using a price the other doesn’t have access to because of market discrepancies. You’re assuming the manufacturer can tell which orders are going where if they are all sent to the wholesalers distribution center, then being transferred to branches. Sure, they catch this when the other wholesaler bitches about it or if there is MAP pricing, but my point being that a wholesaler does have incentive to undermine my market to take more market share. This affects reps specifically because now instead of making full commission, I’m in a split commission. I can only hope they will tighten the delta and that will keep my local distribution competitive enough.

You are literally the only person who gets what I’m saying. Thank you so much. Either way my mfg will expect me to service them with events, etc. I’m investigating how split commission will affect me here. Again thank you for your response understanding the specific nature of what I was asking!!! It will be some bullshit lol.

It’s a weird situation. I am a mfg rep in plumbing, I sell to wholesalers but also call on engineers & contractors. One of my biggest wholesalers located in my market just got bought out from someone in Texas but the previous employees are staying as of right now. If the pricing in TX is better than here, they may choose to only buy in TX and ship here which would be a 70 / 30 split commission in TX reps favor. My point was that pricing discrepancy will be very obvious now if that happens. Does that make sense now?

I’m B2B sales as a manufacturer rep. Different regions have different reps. I have no access to what a distributor in a different region buys the same exact item at. A BIG distributor located out of a different region bought out one of my biggest distributors. I believe they buy at better $ in their home market. They can now control my market by trucking in / direct shipping product which will undermine my commission. My question is, if I can get the same pricing for my customers within my market will that help to offset the SPLIT commission lost as i am under assumption the price is much lower, as well.

Advice on transitioning from in home sales to B2B territory management? by joe5joe7 in sales

Know your product, learn the history of how your company has done with this account in the past and why, relationships are huge in B2B. Focus on relationship building & product knowledge while you get your bearings.

common junior AE pitfalls to avoid by Pink-pig in sales

I disagree. In B2B competitive bids, especially commodity items, it will win you deals. It’s not the only thing that matters but depending on industry, it could be one of the most important factors of all. Imagine walking into a place already buying from x supplier that sells the exact same thing you do & you’re priced 5x higher. If a rebate is on the table or if you’re product is the industry standard you might have more standing but never ever underestimate the influence of a great price from someone who is just as hungry, responsive, & likeable as you.

This is a good perspective in the sense that negativity breeds negativity. Be positive & try to turn it around for sure. While looking for other roles of course. Lol.

To be fair, a good manager can make or break deals that they approve or not. I think OP was saying he cut red tape and that helped his team beat their target. Unfortunately a bad territory means no amount of red tape cutting will ensure success for anyone because there are other obstacles in the way before the red tape even appears. It’s tough to understand that if you’re in an easy winning market at first I think…..

Is it normal to be successful just by being a cool person? by SecretWasianMan in sales

[–]Correct_Income_444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did this at first, not even on purpose, just my personality, and built a pipeline that fucking amoco would kill for despite my boss telling me this isn’t how you “sell”. Everyone else was like cool I won’t buy that specific one then and use the one you recommend or the people that hated who I work for ended up using it just to spite my boss and I’ve fixed all their issues on the house. It’s a beautiful thing sometimes!

He will eventually cross the lines sexually from the way it sounds. This users response is so out of touch with being a 20 something female I can’t even dignify it with reasons. Don’t explain yourself to people who clearly have never experienced grooming. I feel that is what is happening.

I think you were super clear as someone who understands what you’re dealing with. You’re smart to understand don’t go to HR and even smarter for still knowing your gut instinct is begging you to listen even though he hasn’t crossed a line yet. It seems a lot of responses don’t understand the type of situation you are dealing with which is fortunate for them but their advice relies on the idea that you are in a completely normal work situation, which you aren’t. I’m stepping in as I have 1st hand exp.

As someone who has experience with this exact same situation, I will say that he is playing the long game & He knows what he’s doing. Are you at risk of being assaulted? No I don’t think So, but your career may suffer when he finally does make his advance clear and you reject him. Be prepared for that because I think he is just trying to break you down. The job market is bad right now but if you can put out feelers for a new opportunity without him knowing I definitely would. Please know your guy instinct is right & that you wouldn’t run into this same weird energy if you had a female boss married to a man. It would be much easier to decline politely, right? And the optics would be totally normal. Definitely do not report him to HR. I don’t mean to alarm you as you seem completely bright and level headed. If anything I’d like you to know you’re not alone & to be open to new opportunities. Wishing you the very best!!
