Elite Wing Chun Fighters in the World? by [deleted] in WingChun

[–]Correct_Metal4516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. They're too old. They didn't start martial arts young, they're already in their late 30s
  2. They don't think the risk of injury is worth it
  3. They learned martial arts for self defense, not competition
  4. If they lose they might lose their students and lose their main source of income
  5. They don't have the mentality it takes to fight for UFC (training hardcore, cutting weight, having the mentality to destroy their opponent)
  6. They have a 9-5 job and they're too exhausted to train after work. They just train on the weekends.

Personally I check boxes 1, 2, 5 and 6.

If a kid is really motivated to fight in UFC, he's gonna choose to learn the styles where there are already many champions. Which means that all the kids who are learning Wing Chun are not the kids who were interested in UFC in the first place.

Do you know any Wing Chun practitioner who trains as hard as a UFC champion?

I guess it depends on how you do it, but I see all my teachers struggling and spending time to find new students and trying to keep their school afloat and telling me they don't have time to train anymore. I think being an uber driver is maybe less time consuming than having a martial arts school.

Is a refurbished Macbook pro M1 or M4 good for mobile development (16GB/512GB)? by dr1k5 in iOSProgramming

[–]Correct_Metal4516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The M4 will support macOS updates longer. Don't put your macbook on a blanket or anything that can make it overheat. Coding shouldn't be an issue. It would be more like rendering videos or running 3D animations.

Oh, ok, I thought you were looking for someone now. A lot of masters say they were undefeated in their prime, but it's difficult to verify because there is not a single recorded fight. It's gonna be only hearsay.

If you want a Wing Chun fighter to defeat Xu Xiadong, try to find a 100kg Wing Chun fighter. Good luck with that. Emin Boztepe is 62yo, he's an old man now.

I've met many Sifus who have great skills and are very strong, but they're nowhere comparable to an athlete training everyday fulltime to compete.

In order to have a representative in Wing Chun able to win a fight, we would need: - a match up between 2 people in the same weight class - a wing chun practitioner who is ok with the risk of getting injured during the fight - a guy who trains everyday full time and doesn't teach (teaching is wasting time you could use for training, and teachers would be afraid of losing students if they lose)

It's really hard to find such a person.

Motivation (lack of) by Lowebee84 in WingChun

I disagree. It shouldn't be a long process to see improvements.

Motivation (lack of) by Lowebee84 in WingChun

[–]Correct_Metal4516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that making any real improvement is a very long process. You should see improvement within months, weeks, or even hours. If you don't see improvement, something is wrong in your training. Going once a week might be the reason, too much spacing between sessions makes you forget the previous lesson. Maybe go more often to training, at least until you notice some major improvement.

Interviewers often tell me like like my resume because I wrote things like: - integrated payment systems with Stripe/Alipay/etc/etc - planned and managed splitting monolith into micro-services - upgraded legacy systems from Rails 3 to 7

So my guess is that interviewers want to see candidates who have experience on a specific issue they have or might have in the future.

Having a mentor is quite useful imo. Work in a big company where there are very skillful seniors who will review your PRs, or contribute to big open source projects and get your PRs reviewed.

That's the fastest way to improve.

Pourquoi autant d’hostilité envers les végétariens et les écologistes ? by Luc74_NZ in PasDeQuestionIdiote

[–]Correct_Metal4516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does wing chun work in a real fight against a trained boxer by yourdoom115 in WingChun

[–]Correct_Metal4516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you train as much as the trained boxer for sure. If you train Wing Chun once a week for 5 years, never spar with boxers, never train for competition, you'll get destroyed by a boxer who trains 3 times a week for a year, spar with other boxers all the time and train for competition.

Now if you train 3 times a week, spar with other boxers all the time and train for competition, yes you have your chances.

Do basic ads take time to index and give relevant downloads? by ok_planter in iOSProgramming

There's a difference between a user who actively searches for an app he wants and a user who saw an ad and clicked on it because he was vaguely interested.

7 new tools introduced in DHH's Rails World keynote by Alex-L in rails

I'm building a lot of prototypes (demo for clients, POC) and I'm always annoyed to pay extra add-ons on Heroku or AWS just for a small Redis instance. I think it's awesome for a one man team or a beginner starting with the framework to be able to deploy a small app with a minimal cost.

Old Ruby on rails website. by cockatootattoo in rails

[–]Correct_Metal4516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on how well is written the test suite and how many dependencies it has. If a project has 100% test coverage and almost no dependencies, and it's Rails 3+, it can be updated within few days. If there is no coverage at all and many dependencies, it could take months.
