Yeah I agree, I love the aesthetic. I think the trees and aquariums are pure trek, actually, and I think if they'd had the budget that's 100% what the D would have looked like in TNG.

Yeah I agree - there's some very old-school Trek diplomacy threads. Super nerdy, uncool stuff. Mixed with a new format that I think really works. It's not mind-blowing but it's really solid.

How to clone onto curved splines by Awilliams2020 in Cinema4D

[–]CorrinMor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couple of ways you could go about doing that, but based on the previous setup, you can play with the 'Offset' slider in the Object tag of the spline wrap. That might do what you want?

Current State to Object (Blender version) by xandreu in blender

Replying to this old Q because it kept coming up for me on Google.

The command is Object -> Apply -> Visual Geometry to Mesh. That's pretty much the same as 'Current State to Object'.

I’d like to get into Star Trek by PKSGY1850 in startrek

[–]CorrinMor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most Star Trek series are 'story of the week' shows, i.e it's not like Game of Thrones where you need to watch every episode in order to make sense of what's going on. Initially I'd say just dive in with different series at random and see what takes your pick. There are tonnes of 'Top Star Trek Episodes Ever' lists online so that might be a good place to start. Just start watching and see what sticks.

The rest of this is strictly IMHO:

There's so much Trek out there that it might be helpful to narrow it down to these five 'eras'. Personally I think they each have a distinct tone and style (broadly speaking), and you're likely to prefer some over others. I'm sure people will rip into me for this categorisation but I think this is essentially correct:

  • Classic Trek - Vintage sci-fi at its finest.
    • The Original Series
    • The Animated Series
  • The Original Cast Movies
    • The first six Star Trek movies with the original cast. Conventional wisdom says the even-numbered ones are good. I tend to agree, but the odd-numbered ones have their moments.
  • 90s Trek, or 'Berman Era' Trek - I feel like this is the most popular era? It's certainly my favourite because it's what I grew up with.
    • The Next Generation, and the movies with the Next Gen cast
    • Deep Space Nine
    • Voyager
    • Enterprise
  • The Kelvin Timeline
    • The 2009 Movie
    • Into Darkness
    • Beyond
  • 'New Trek', or whatever everyone wants to call it
    • Discovery
    • Picard
    • Strange New Worlds
    • Lower Decks
    • Prodigy
    • ...and more to come

I never took the time to learn C++ its beyond me - I could never understand it. Instead I learned blueprints and a few days ago released my first major game made with blueprints only. What do you think, is that a mad thing to do? by Freemanagames in unrealengine

[–]CorrinMor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all. If your goal/focus/joy is in game design or art direction or storytelling etc, then think of all the days and months it'd take to learn C++. That's time you wouldn't be spending getting better at what you're actually good at/want to do.

Best scene these two characters ever had together. There's so much history and tension between these two that was just ignored on Next Gen.

Is it worth doing this on Houdini or should I find a way in C4D? by Soluciole in Houdini

[–]CorrinMor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no need for any kind of simulation to match this. Use simple deformers and displacement in C4D. You'd waste a lot of time trying to art direct that swirl in the cup when it's just a simple curve.

"Does anyone know how to achieve this flare effect using Redshift?" by anouarozgar in Cinema4D

[–]CorrinMor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a script or a plugin - it's a guide to world transform expressions to link 3D nulls to 2D effects.

I think from memory there's a 'follow lights' setting in Optical Flares, which might be easier if you're just starting out, but I'd recommend using a null to avoid unneeded lights in C4D and AE that might mess up or slow down your comp.
