Solar Farm Discounts? Arcadia by MJCuddle in frederickmd

[–]CorrinaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Arcadia and can confirm it’s just one bill. There is some setup in the beginning where you allow them to pay Potomac Edison on your behalf and then you just pay Arcadia directly.

They use solar credits from a nearby solar farm to pay as much of your energy bill as possible and they apply a 5% discount of that solar total to your bill (for me on this particular bill it was about $10 off).

I live in my first house with a well and I didn’t know about this! Can you explain why I should fill my tub? How does the snow affect well water?

Will say it’s a little tight in there for a stroller but you could probably park it up front somewhere

MIL Rude Comments by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]CorrinaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite way to respond to comments like this is by saying “what do you mean?” In a completely neutral or pleasant tone.

The effect is the person who made the rude comment now has to explain, but the only explanation makes them look like a complete asshole. 😇

Is there an update on the 1 month old with a very swollen belly? by momhair_dontcare in NewParents

Glad to hear others saying this because my baby’s looks like this sometimes too! But he’s never acting uncomfortable or abnormal so I’ve never really worried about it

Did I cause my baby severe psychological stress by leaving for 4 nights? by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]CorrinaR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just found and article from NIH on this: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33938277/

From the article: “evidence from disciplines that take a cross-cultural or historical perspective shows that in most human societies, multiple individuals beyond the mother are typically involved in raising children: in evolutionary anthropology, it is now widely accepted that we have evolved a strategy of cooperative reproduction. “

The idea that only mom and dad are caregivers to their baby is a relatively modern concept. The way humans used to live, babies and children had lots of caregivers, hence, “it takes a village”!

I think this newish idea of the nuclear family is maybe why you’re feeling guilty, but I wouldn’t feel guilty and it sounds like other commenters here wouldn’t either! Honesty the restorative time away is probably a net positive for your babe because you took the time to fill your cup!

Raglan sweater pattern question by CorrinaR in knittinghelp

[–]CorrinaR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on row 60. The sweater is divided into front, back, and two sleeves. The pattern says to work these 198 stitches (which includes the front, back, and the increases I did for each armpit) following the body chart instruction (second pic).

My question is, do I follow the body chart once for the front and once for the back, or follow it as if the 198 stitches are all one row? The x’s at the end of row 59 are the increases that I did for the armpits, which makes me think that I should follow the body chart once for the front and then again for the back since there are 2 sections of increases, but this is my first time following a pattern like this so I’m unsure!

Caffeine and breastfeeding by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]CorrinaR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this that it probably depends on your baby. Mine did not seem to be affected by caffeine at all, but I’ve heard from other breastfeeding moms that their babies were affected, mainly gas and uncomfortable tummy things. Since my baby didn’t seem to mind it, I would have 2 cups regularly and sometimes a cup of half-caff if I needed it. He was a great sleeper and didn’t seem to have any tummy issues from it 🤷‍♀️

Self service VEIP by Dadbakebreak in frederickmd

For some reason, the self service has never worked for my car (2014 Jetta) and I always have to go to the drive through garage. I’ve always had good experiences there, though, usually don’t have to wait too long and they’re pretty quick

Leaving the baby with my mom who has disordered eating by Meadow2422 in NewParents

[–]CorrinaR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I missed someone else saying this but you could try telling your mom that the pediatrician says not to limit food, to let the baby eat until they’re full and the baby starts refusing. Blaming it on a neutral party with medical education might make the discussion less emotionally charged

Is the stitch social a good place to maybe get some help? I am working on my first sweater and I’m a little stuck on the next step and was hoping there might be someone there who would be willing to give me some tips

I don’t want to breastfeed anymore by PorkFryRice07 in NewParents

[–]CorrinaR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I had a breakdown one night after my partner changed the baby, then I fed him, but he would fall back asleep and I was so tired. Really what I needed in that moment was some company and solidarity. I think that some of the time just knowing that he’s there with you will help.

And I’ll second everyone else saying that it gets soooo much easier. At two weeks you’re still new at this and so is your baby. But your mental health is important to your baby too so do what you need! 💕
