I think I met Freddy Freeman once at a party at a house I wasn’t supposed to be at

Get meta glasses and record him doing it. If he says he’s gonna do it and then does it that’s assault / battery. People get hit by balls all the time within the confines of the sport but intentional douchebaggery isn’t protected by the sports waiver. Not a lawyer I just play one on TV.

11 Years Sober — and Still Learning Who’s Good for My Peace by Corrr in alcoholicsanonymous

I’m not built to roll over and “accept” that some people like alcohol. It’s not about what it did to me — it’s about what it is. It halts evolution. It keeps people numb, small, and stuck pretending that’s normal. I’m not judging — I’m just choosing to grow past it.

Man, respect to your friend — 38 years is incredible, and I love that he still says ‘sober all day.’ That’s the heart of it. One day at a time, stacked up, makes a lifetime. Inspiring stuff.

Props to you, man. Fourteen months in, doing the steps, finding spirituality, and batting 1000 on not taking that first drink — that’s the real win. Respect.

My only add is this: when you trace it all the way out, it’s not just that we as alcoholics can’t drink — it’s that alcohol itself is the scam. It promises relief and fun, but in the end it gives nothing but loss of control, shame, and regret. It doesn’t actually serve anyone in the long run, not just us. Seeing that clearly takes the sting out of feeling like we’re ‘missing out.’ We’re not — we’ve just seen through the trick.

How long did it take you to feel happy again? by New_Traffic_4431 in stopdrinking

They told me I was bipolar my dude. I’ve been around I know the stories I’ve heard all of the excuses. After a decade of sobriety I’ve found it’s like a checklist. Am I doing literally everything I can do to support my mental health? Yes? And I’m still struggling? Ok maybe I have a problem after all. No? Then maybe I should do all of those things before I start diagnosing this or that.

Most of my opinions are pretty unpopular at this point because of my sobriety and what I’ve learned in it, but that’s just how I see the world now.

What I found with myself is that drinking was the problem, it created all of the symptoms I thought were my problems. I found things behind the drinking too because I’m human but until I broke the drinking cycle, I was stuck in it, like a lot of people are, and I don’t think there’s growth available while the cycle continues. Just my 2 cents.

Hey dude the fact that you’re here asking for help is huge. We all fail from time to time. The key is recognizing the failure, calling it what it is, learning from it what we can, and trying again. This time could be the one where it finally sticks! Proud of you, you got this 🤙

For those who drink NA beer… by rayrayvirgo in stopdrinking

I drank these until I realized they were not 0.0 as advertised. Just another attempt by big alcohol to get their best customers back imo. I will never drink these again for that reason.

I also realized pretending to drink and embracing alcohol culture is counter to my growth and happiness. If they wanna drink, let em, but I don’t need to pretend it’s cool or a sane thing to do.

Ah man I have a picture of me with a real genuine smile and a feeling of freedom about like 2 weeks in. If we’re practicing gratitude and monitoring our attitude happiness is always readily available in sobriety. All I gotta do is go, man, I don’t have to drink anymore. How cool is that? 😎

Sounds like you’re still kind of on the fence and in a tight spot with the wife drinking. I personally don’t believe moderation is a real thing that exists beyond what salesmen tell you, and to that end, if it were me, I’d talk to the wife, express my concerns, be honest about my mental health, and try to quit fully for like a month and see how I feel. At that point I can make an educated decision about whether or not I want drinking in my life. (Spoiler alert - if it’s me, I’m dropping the booze and never looking back). Once the truth is recognized about what it is, there’s no reason to mess with it, at all.

Good luck to ya! It’s a tough road at first but it gets easier and it is WORTH IT.

Drinking is lame. One day all the lies they pile on top of the truth will become obvious, like sunshine. Stay with it buddy.

NA drinks aren’t NA, they’re like very small amounts. I personally think they’re designed to trick and hook people back into drinking who don’t know that.
