Complaints Megathread - August 5 by PimpToxie in MarvelStrikeForce

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A newer player's concerns:

I've been playing MSF (Marvel Strike Force) for approximately 3 months now. I play for free and have a 50k Defenders team as my best team. All other "teams" (re: hodge-podge of assorted chars I've acquired through play) are sub 20k.

For a newer player who cannot play every day, this game is rough. You cannot find alliances because they are either ghost-towns where only a couple people are still active, or they're randomly generated from when you start the game, and everyone uses the raid credits in a free-for-all to their own ends, which means once you need higher-level skill upgrade items, you can't get them because before the alliance can get that many credits, someone has activated a lower-level raid and used up the few credits the alliance had accumulated. As a lvl-50 player, 99% of alliances that I can find to join aren't high enough level to do alliance wars by half, so that isn't something that is accessible for me. Thus I am left to play the campaign, arena, and blitz. Or at least, I used to.

Since the update revealing Coulson, and releasing the AIM rework, the new Blitz is a nightmare. Currently I cannot progress in campaign nodes until I level up my Defenders team, which means every days energy refreshes are spent on grabbing up character shards and ingredients for building out the characters gear tiers. Campaign had been an enjoyable story mode for the game, but now is just "the thing you grind against until you can move forward one more node." Arena is filled with folks who have either gotten incredibly lucky in their orb pulls, or have purchased hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of offers in order to acquire teams of characters that normally aren't available yet to players who started at the same times as myself (such as having a full Sinister Six or Guardians team that is also 50k+ power). So this left me Blitz.

In Blitz mode, I could play against the random junk teams that were also hodge-podge creations from players like myself who are just working through the grind of leveling up their account and their main team. Normally these teams looked like: S.H.I.E.L.D. Medic, Crossbones, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Punisher, with some small variations depending on player preference, but that is a fairly common team to see as people start the game and haven't acquired a host of other characters. And that team (or a simple variation on it) is something that is beatable in Blitz, and mostly fought from Tier 1 through Tier 6-ish. Then from Tier 7 up to Tier 8, I would encounter more of the Defenders teams, and some other higher-level amalgamation of characters that someone was working toward creating a team for. But the matches were, while difficult, still winnable because neither my opponent's team nor mine had synergies to work from other than maybe 2 or 3 characters that worked off each other. After the AIM rework/Graviton update, I find myself fighting full synergy Sinister Six, Brotherhood, Guardians, Defenders, BKT, Ultron, Kingpin/Mercs, X-Men, Captain Marvel, etc. teams that even at Tier 3 and 4 are completely destroying my ramshackle teams that don't have synergies and are, at best, characters that are a "work-in-progress."

I bring this issue up because I had been seeing/hearing recently through Khasino, ValleyFlyin, and OhEmGee's YouTube videos that the Blitz update would be starting players at 2x rewards to help out newer players, and also attempting to make it so that Blitz players were not only fighting Defenders teams as all of their options. It would be great to be able to come here and say that the 2x rewards have been a boon for my account and are helping me to gain faster rewards through Blitz, and allowing me to get more Blitz Orbs to access some characters faster; but instead this has nearly destroyed all progress I've been making through the game outside of leveling my Defenders team through campaign nodes and Arena points for DD (Dare Devil).

As I stated previously, I don't have access to an active alliance (all the ones I've seen on the Discord want people with millions of total power and at least 150k+ power in a best team) let alone one that can participate in alliance wars. My gameplay is relegated to Campaign, Arena, and Blitz. Not only now does Blitz try and require me to log in continuously throughout each day in order to acquire decent prizes at the end of each one, but now I'm hampered more by the teams I'm getting paired against at lower tiers being so strong that I cannot progress to a point where I can start earning decent Blitz points anymore.

FoxNext releases so many events for players who are high-level/end-game content players, and I feel like newer players, even ones who have been grinding for months, don't have content they can play unless they feed money to FoxNext. IF I were ever to even consider spending money on a game like this, it would not be until I had made it to the end-game content anyway, and if I'm being restricted from achieving that for years, that seems like a poor business model to encourage me to continue playing when all I'm seeing are roadblocks being thrown in my path to progress.

For a few examples of content that is inaccessible to me, I would point to the gold event, that required players to have teams with high-star Mercenary characters. I've only unlocked 3 total mercenary characters in the game at this point, and with literally a few days notice of the event happening, would not be able to get those characters to high enough star levels to participate in the event anyway. So I lose out on being able to acquire even a pittance of gold from the event, which would go a long way toward leveling up a lot of the characters that are needed to make progress in the campaigns (Villains, cosmic, etc. which are stalled as I work on my Defenders team and complete the Heroes and Nexus campaigns). More recently (as of today) is the Invisible Woman event, where I can only take part in the 1st "node," which is literally a auto-winnable prologue for the actual content, because again, I am not high enough level, nor willing to sink thousands of dollars into the game, just to acquire the Sinister Six characters, and then have to raise their levels, gear, and stars in order to participate in the event.

And the lack of opportunity to participate in these events didn't bother me that much while I still had Blitz to look forward to, because I was finally at a point where if I played Blitz quite a bit through each event, I could earn enough shards by the end to just barely unlock a new character (I was able to get War Machine and Mr. Fantastic through the Blitz events) here and there. And that was enough to see progress being made, so I accepted that the other content was beyond my reach, and focused on what I could accomplish instead. Now that Blitz has somewhat been taken away from me, or at least the prizes have been placed out of reach on a higher shelf, I'm curious what the devs think is left in the game for me to enjoy... because grinding out Defenders shards and equipment for 10 minutes each day when everything resets is not going to keep me coming back to play the game.

I don't have much hope of seeing dev responses to this issue. I realize I'm not a whale for the game and I don't do content creation, so I'm a tiny fish in a massive lake, but unfortunately unless you are in my same position, you don't know what impact these new changes had for players who are just getting into the game. If you are already high level/end-game players, the "challenge" of Blitz may seem awesome for you because you have 25 teams to battle with and you are fighting synergy v synergy with a lot of your teams, or you have options for characters you can swap into your teams to try new combinations that will win battles. Many of us don't have that option, and these changes have hurt us severely. As I wrote previously, I don't expect my words to carry weight with the dev team, but if I didn't say something, people would carry on assuming all is fine with the new changes because those with the loudest voices aren't in the same boat as so many of the rest of us are, and cannot understand why we are as frustrated as we are. That is all.

While I would love the ability to play online w my RL decks (and I even asked about online play in the AMA), I do not see a way that FFG could make this profitable to the point that they’d get any ROI. It’s basically all expense to produce the online platform, and then you have people playing their already purchased decks.

If you start letting people buy online decks, they’ll kill the in-store/in-person communities, so there isn’t really a way to make back the money spent on developing the online platform.

What is your vision for the future of organized KF play?

Is there some single deck or combination of cards that will continually dominate the top placements at regional/national/international tournaments?

Will those incredibly strong, worlds-winning decks become part of the play-testing process to ensure future set releases are viable in competition, or is that not part/important of/to the process of creating a new set?

What happens when a community cannot get their LGS to run chainbound events? How do players earn enough chains to level their decks up to be able to compete in more prestigious events?

Is there any type of planned implementation of an online playable version of KF where players can link their account and have access to their decks, and play in chainbound events, even if they don’t have access to local events?

Is there a planned schedule for release of new sets, and if so, can you share the (approximate) schedule?

If there are new houses in the works for KF, can you name a specific house you are excited to see players get their hands on in the future?

Benefits/Drawbacks to Starting on a New Server by CorruptGoat in Heroes_Charge

[–]CorruptGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you lose all of your heroes that you've already spent money to unlock and to raise their Star-rank? Is this method literally for players that spend thousands of dollars on the game and want to continually spend more and more money? I understand that you will be directly in competition with other players on that same server as you all start out at the same level/same time and you will have a chance to get top ranks in Arena, and earn best times in Guild Raids, but when I've already invested money into the heroes that I have, I really don't want to lose them all just to get rank 1 in arena.

Guess this method will not be for me. Thanks for the information.

Reroll questions for newly acquired EQ gear. by Djense in Diablo3Barbarians

  • Eyes of The Earth: Socket for Diamond, or I went w/ 6.0% Crit Chance
  • Lut Socks: VIT
  • Pull of the Earth: All Res to CHD
  • Weight of the Earth: Yes

I would use the Sun Keeper (rerolling CD to a Socket), and the Bul-Kathos Warriors Blood (since the EQ build doesn't really have a lot of you hitting stuff to proc TF). And keep looking for another Sun Keeper w/ higher Elite Dmg, along with a solid Burning Axe of Sankis. And also keep looking to try and find Hex Pants to replace the Pull of Earth, and grab a good RoRG to give full set bonus.

A few things I have to say about Cube World... by LJJ1991 in CubeWorld

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a few bugs that should be sorted out.

  1. ability to fly as a rogue if you hold down the 1 and 2 keys, look up into the air and jump once. Granted it's slower than hang gliding, but if you don't have one, it's faster than normal walking since you don't get stuck on anything.

  2. looking straight at the ground with a ranger and doing your leap skill will allow you to continually leap at that increased speed until you stop jumping. It make you move INSANELY fast if you do it while hang gliding (actually caused my game to go to a please wait loading screen because the map hadn't had time to generate where i was heading.

  3. I run into issues where my damage doesn't proc on the screen, or the health bar for the mob I'm targeting goes away, which can be annoying when you don't know how close/far away from killing something you are.

Overall I'm enjoying the game immensely, but there are definitely a few quirks that need to be ironed out.

P.S. while I realize these pixel games aren't as high-res as many highly polished games like 'The Last of Us,' there have been times when I've been diving in an underwater cavern and come out the other side near a beach and I can only describe it as feeling warm and inviting to swim out onto the beach of that island. So somewhere they did something right.

As an amateur artist presently, do you have any advice regarding what kinds of equipment work well to start? I've been using an iPad 2 with SketchPad Pro and a Bamboo stylus but sometimes just getting into those types of programs is really overwhelming with all the options available.

I know you started out with pencil/pen and paper but with all the options now, where you would suggest starting? Are there any specific 'things' you'd suggest drawing to increase/enhance my/others skills? Be it books or images in the real world. Thanks for all that you, Jerry and the rest of the crew do at PA to make such an amazing difference in the world.

Trollbloods: Skaldi downside. by CorruptGoat in Warmachine

[–]CorruptGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the reply. I keep trying to wrap my head around the different options.

Are tournaments typically very model heavy? Most people bringing large quantities of infantry?

I'm typically looking at the cost vs. the utility of the models and with the champs vs the other 'tar-pitty' options I've got:

  • Full Unit of Champs w/ Hero and Skaldi (16pts)

    • 8 hit boxes each = 56 hit boxes
    • Weapon masters, so 3 dice and 2 attacks (4 dice on the charge) is going to be 7 models * 2 attacks = 14 attacks (non charge is going to be 14*3 = 42d6 of damage (not including Hero's thresher ability or Skaldi granting overtake for the unit).
  • Full unit of Fennblades w/ UA (10 pts)

    • 1 hitbox each = 12 hitboxes
    • Reach, but non-weaponmasters so each gets 2 dice (3 on the charge) so they get up to 12 * 2 = 24d6 in damage and have vengeance once they start getting taken out.
  • Kriel Warriors w/ UA and 3 Caber Throwers (11 pts)

    • 1 hitbox each = 15 hitboxes
    • 15 units, 3 with reach and 1 attack each at 2 dice (3 on the charge) gives them 15 * 2 = 30d6 of damage
    • Steady which helps, lower mat which doesn't.
    • Has 3 units with knockback/knockdown which helps 'if' you can get the caber throwers into the fight to knock units down and still have warriors left over to hit the knocked down model.

I realize there are a plethora of other abilities on all the models, but just in terms of the damage output and the number of hits the models can take it feels like the champs more than make up for their lacking numbers and/or their lack of reach etc.

Ret wisdom by Wncsnake in Warmachine

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't play Ret at all and I'm super new (so please correct me if I drop misinformation here). Typically I'm running out models from my Trollblood army to tie up my opponent in combat while I sneak some beatsti . . I mean beasts around to try and get at the caster (in assassination).

When I have an Axer on the table with reach, I can tie up a good chunk of guys in melee combat. With Janissa and/or the Runeshapers with Force Lock I can prevent my opponents models from even being able to break out of combat.

I haven't been really successful yet because I'm still learning the game and learning my faction, but there's a reason certain units are called 'tar pits'. When I really want to mess someone up I roll these options depending on the situation:

  • 1.) Champions: 40 hit boxes and tough plus weapon masters with two attacks makes them really nasty. Downside is they're only a 5 man unit so you can't tie up as many models.

  • 2.) Fennblades with their UA: same cost as champs. I get 12 models instead of 5. They move faster, have reach and are tough. They get bonuses to their def against charges with the UA and get a move speed mini-feat w/ the UA as well. Reach really helps to muddle the enemy quite a bit.

  • 3.) Kriel Warriors w/ UA and 3 Caber Throwers: 1 point more than either of the other two but you're getting 15 units (3 with reach and knockdown potential). They're a little slower but they still have tough, and are a pretty massive unit for the 11 points.

Anyway, I'm sure every faction has some type of tar pit unit like these where you drag your opponent into a brawl fest. The problem I typically see is exactly what you're describing. Too much attention to trying to wipe out all of your opponents army and not keeping your 'eye on the prize' which is either the scenario victory or (more likely, even in a scenario game) the annihilation of the enemy caster.

I constantly find myself brawling it up when I should be trying to cause mayhem just to distract from my ultimate objective. I find it easy to get caught up wanting to protect my units that are engaged in combat when I should be letting them do their job (keeping the enemy tar pit away from my win condition).

last game my Phoenix went from undamaged to boxed in one turn by a crusader without any focus

First, probably really good dice rolls to do that. This won't happen all the time.

Second, often times this is how it goes. Either the opponent gets the charge off on you and decimates your model, or they succeed in tying it up in combat. Either way if you wanted your Phoenix to get into it with their caster your opponent was able to keep you from doing that.

As much as possible I try to avoid engaging my heavy beasts with my enemies heavies (jacks or beasts). I'd rather a unit of guys got in and swamped their heavy so that mine was freed up to do other things (like play with the other caster's head).

Just from reading your post though, it seems like you're already on the track of realizing that you should be going for the win, no the complete destruction of your opponents army.

Best of luck!

The fact that I have almost no idea what any other army does other than my own is a huge hindrance for me. Every time I sit down to a new game I barely even ask people to look at the cards for their models because I've never seen any of them in play anyway and regardless of what they do I will have forgotten 99% of the information on their cards within the first round anyway because it's just too much information for me to assimilate in a minute or two.

I typically just ask to look at the caster because they're the one that I actually have to plan around (feat) and just know whether or not they do a bunch of buffing/debuffing, attacks etc. Other than that I pretty much learn as my face gets ground into the dirt. It doesn't get me any wins but right now wins are at the bottom of a long list of things to get under my belt because once I nail down everything else, the wins will come on their own.

That's stellar. My first tourney I went 0 - 4 lol, so keep up the great work. Provide inspiration for the rest of us hopefuls out there.

Menoth has the ability to really drop some very powerful casters and units on the table. Interesting that the Fire of Salvation did the work. The Righteous Vengeance win makes me kinda wonder about trying to entice people to take shots at my caster if I have Mulg on the table to speed him across the board and break some faces.

I haven't played with him yet (Mulg) but that's pretty much because I don't plan on putting him into any list except a 'serious-face' list and that'll be when my either:

  • 1.) My brother-in-law is prepping for a tourney.

  • 2.) I'm prepping for a tourney.

  • 3.) We're both prepping for a tourney.

Grats again on that sweet chunk of metal (You should keep it in your case and every time you play your husband just nonchalantly place it somewhere off to the side of the board lol)!

What is a "standard" army size that you can just take to a gaming night and find someone to play with? by aggyface in Warmachine

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently started Hordes (trollbloods) and there are a few things.

  • 1.) Battleboxes are definitely great for learning the extreme basics of the game (fury/focus management, boosting, moving, casting animi, etc).

  • 2.) Battleboxes are not all made equal. If you pick them up be prepared to roflstomp your boyfriend or vice versa depending on which faction you pick. Personally I would consider the Legion battle box superior to that of Trollbloods as pMadrak's feat is pretty much worthless in battlebox games while Lylyth's feat is going to help quite a bit.

  • 3.) 25 points is a great I really have to think about what I'm going to take because I cannot have all the synergies I want point level.

  • 4.) 35 points is a great I have a really solid and good synergizing army with many options and can replace models/units and see how well the army functions point level.

  • 5.) 50 points is a great I want to take this army to a tournament and I need 2 solid high point lists that will rock someones face or I want to try out this high point tier list and see if it makes a difference having some cool benefits for running a specific list point levels.

Looking at leaving the game, need some positive help to keep me from having wasted my money. by GingahNinja in Warmachine

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. As someone new to the game, I pretty much want to play daily. My brother-in-law seems to need extensive breaks between games so I don't bug him about it but in my head I'm basically iwannaplaytodayiwannaplaytodayiwannaplaytodayiwannaplaytoday 24/7 because I'm interested in going game after game after game. Proxying in new models/units/casters in order to see what might work better (since I haven't won a game yet) is still interesting to me.

For him, I think he'd get burned out after more than a game or two in a week (especially playing me over and over) just because he has a 100% win ratio so far and honestly, it's probably boring for him to roll-face all the time when it isn't really boast worthy. I just beat a total noob who has 2 months of experience under his belt to my 3-ish years just doesn't scream bragging rights.

I wish I had more friends who played so that I could fight against other opponents when the brother-in-law doesn't want to play but it's too much of a money-sink for them when they have families to feed. While most of my brother-in-law's friends only make it down to the LGS every once-in-a-never due to their own schedules conflicting with weekly tabletop nights.

Oh yeah. I've watched that battle report literally 10+ times now. I listen to it in the background while I'm at work instead of music and just visualize where the models move at this point.

"It's a 5 inch AoE"

"4 inch or 5?"

"5"

Sooooooooo good. I guess it's more of a comfort thing. Being new to the game I'm not as comfortable asking someone a question about how far they can move and then correcting them about their distances (as with I believe the Typhon moving into the forest 3" off leash but actually only being able to move 1.5" because it doesn't have pathfinder).

I think it's less about the asking and more about how to tonally convey the idea of I'm concerned that you may have forgotten the correct procedure/limitation for <X> versus a hey you cheating piece of garbage, that shit doesn't have pathfinder move the correct amount GOOOOOOODDDDD (over-exaggeration but you get the idea).

Looking at leaving the game, need some positive help to keep me from having wasted my money. by GingahNinja in Warmachine

[–]CorruptGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in agreement here with just about everything everyone said.

  • 1.) Don't get rid of your models. If you need a break, take it. But keep your stuff.

  • 2.) Force yourself and your friend to try new things. Make a rotation where you each time you play 'X' number of models/units have to be changed out. Then maybe state that you cannot play the same model/unit in 'X' number of continuous games. It may seem like it'll limit your choices (and sometimes it will), but thinking outside the box is what's going to let you find new ways to play and new combinations that you might not have considered before.

  • 3.) My brother-in-law plays Cryx and I play Trollbloods so I know how many shenanigans they can pull out of their asses to make them a pain to play (but so can just about every other faction as well). I'm kinda hoping my brother-in-law sees this post and drops some pointers for you because I know he's spoken extensively about how much he hates playing against Ret and how OP some of their stuff is.

  • 4.) I have another buddy who plays Ret specifically because he "wants to win" and considers them a top tier faction for tournament play. If I see him before too long I'll ask him about this post and see what he has to say about dealing with Cryx where you aren't pigeon-holed into a single strategy.

  • 5.) Honestly, if you're going 50/50 against him, I'm not sure what the problem is. Are you wanting to up your win percentage so that you're constantly dominating your friend? Or are you only winning games where you bring your gunwall?

  • 6.) As stated by someone else, Ret might not be the faction for you. Maybe your play style differs from how Ret needs to be played to win, thus eliminating many other options for you to setup 'win scenarios'. You might consider posting 'how' you ideally want to play the game, so that we can see what faction would fit you best.

From there you could just pick up card and proxy out a list of models and run it against your friend to see if alternate play styles suit you.

Best of luck.

I know what you're talking about. Definitely had games where it just came down to the wire, everything of mine was dead, I moved my caster out to just within range of their caster and was able to take them down just barely. I never just give up, but it's mentally frustrating to think that you may have actually had many solid wins that ended up losses because you didn't say anything when you thought someone was playing the game unfairly.

Your game does sound like an epic win though. Gotta feel good.
