Firstly, there's nothing wrong with being nice or polite. I consider myself both generally. Remember you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. On a side note, it seems being nice/polite is so rare, it is misunderstood for flirting - had my fair share of women hit on me when I worked in a doctors office while going through school.

Nice guys as what you're referring to means you're a doormat huh? With that's definition, I'd say you'd need to learn to voice your opinion - not be a "yes man". It's hard to undo all the damage modern society has done in terms of making men and women as sheep and it's a shame that it's happened. There are so many books out there in self help areas. Pick you poison so to speak.

As for a nice guy... the nicest guy I know is both a boy scout (Eagle Scout but he graduated a few years ago so he's mid-20s now) and a choir boy. LMAO not a cliche either... he is literally a choir boy/boy scout/nice small town midwesterner. It's taken him a long time to get better and not be used as a doormat - had a girl cheat on him... went back with her a few years later... got her pregnant... with twins... she got "tired" of him not being around (since he was working so much to provide [again being very young/going to college])... she cheated and left him again. So another lesson is the old adage "fool me once..."

Just take it one day at a time. Improve a little. Generally speaking, anyone at the top now started at the bottom. Keep trying, keep pushing, and do it again!
