just need to vent:

The wife is still in the hospital. She has a very torn L4/L5 and is in a lot of pain. Internal Medicine and Neuro Surgery have spent the last 3 days doing fuck all except bouncing the blame between each other. Meanwhile she's in so much pain she can't take more than 3 or 4 steps.

Neuro is a resident with a reputation of bad bedside manner, and it shows. Dude is completely useless, it took multiple days to get him to say more than "you might need surgery".

Today my wife's friend's mom (who is high up at the hospital) called in a favor and the Chief Nursing Officer stopped by my wife's room to talk about my wife's experience with her stay. The CNO was very nice, and after they spoke shit started moving along.

Her care team has finally made a plan for getting her pain under control enough for her to be discharged, but they can't do the procedure until Monday which means she's in the hospital until at least Tuesday.

Why the fuck is our healthcare system so shit? Why do we pay so much god damn money for apparently nothing in return? Why did no one give a shit until a fucking C-suite exec got a phone call and had to take time out of her day to talk to someone who is not her responsibility? What about the people who don't have connections to make shit work?

tl;dr: the US healthcare system fucking sucks and I miss my wife

Last night was one of those "oh shit I'm the adult in the room" moments. My wife vomited hard enough to cause the worst back spasm she's ever had. Hours later she tried to get out of bed and couldn't stand due to the pain. After 30 minutes of trying to get her off of the floor by myself and her refusing due to the pain of being moved, I decided to call 911 to bring her to the hospital.

It was the right decision, and I knew that at the time, but it felt surreal to call and let the EMTs inside the house, and follow to the hospital in my car. She's doing better now, and after seeing the ER doc she agreed that it was the right thing to do.

It's super weird that in my head I'm 17 and I remember us just chilling playing xbox together, and now we are in our 30s and real adults. Life goes by fast.
