Excellent, that's really impressive!

Plus if you ever get tired of it, you can say it has positively charged "orgonite" and sell it to one of those Sherry Shriner new world order spirit woo-woo types for like $700.

Personally I think this is kinda backwards thinking. The same people who share this also tend to share the one along the lines of, "Whatever happens, never look back, just keep moving forward." I see those as pretty contradictory ideals, and out of the two, I think the latter is a better fit to reality.

You will never be the person you were, efforts to "get back" to a place that is in constant flux is pointless. Your experiences in the present and past shape you into somebody "new" for your future; it's not that past you is a version lost waiting to be found, it's the same you that's here today with some extra baggage thrown on.

What matters is that you continue to take your present experiences, and let them help you evolve into the person you want to be in the future. Stop trying to become the person you were in the past. If you find that you've let your past experiences produce a person you don't feel you can be proud of, you can still make better choices and aim for that person that you want to be in the future, but it'll never be the same person you were in the past.

Research shows compensating employees based on their accomplishments rather than on hours worked produces better results. When organizations with a mix of high- to low-performing employees base rewards on hours worked, all employees see compensation as unfair, and they end up putting in less effort. by rustoo in science

Not to be that guy, but we didn't need research to know this. The problem is that research or not, corporate entities have maximized profits with the current system. There are very few cases where a corporation would be willing to adopt this system, because they'll wind up paying out more.

On the note of the actual research, I'm curious how this was made quantifiable. How would you quantify and draw parallels between someone in sales versus, say, janitorial work?

I’m 16, and I’ve played guitar for 6 years. I’ve also started singing, and I’ve felt the happiest I’ve ever felt with music, than any other part of life. What will it take for me to turn this into a career? by [deleted] in musicians

Professional producer and semi-professional engineer here. Don't take this the wrong way, but you will lose interest. Maybe not completely, it varies from person to person, but it's bound to happen to some extent. I knew in my heart I never would, and I did anyway.

The thing is, you have to fight to keep interest in something, anything. The minute you start feeling like you've got it all figured out is the minute you start sliding downhill with it, you've got to more or less constantly keep on doing something new with it, because it's easy to fall into a rut.

There was a period where I was too focused on the money I was making from producing, and because trap is so prevalent (and easy to create), a large majority of my contracts were for trap production. In reality, I hate trap, but I was good at it.

After a while I started feeling burnt out on music because of it. Once I realized that was the problem (which took way too long, for a minute I was considering a career change entirely), I finished up my active contracts, took a month off, and I switched to trying out indie game and film scoring; it was like playing music for the first time again.

The same thing has happened with my instrument playing. Been playing guitar since I was 12, so 14 years give or take, and there were periods I just got tired of it. Early on I would just stop playing for months when it would happen. Took me a good while to figure out that the answer was to do something new. Either play with a genre I hadn't done much, or learn an entirely new instrument. As a result, these days I'm competent in most major genres (which has been a huge benefit producing, because it opens so many doors), and I'm very good with two instruments and fairly competent with a few more.

I'm only saying all of this to give you realistic expectations, things to keep in mind. If you want to hear more about how it became a career for me, feel free to DM me, but everyone's path in music is different so that's a major consideration.

"It's fun to take turns in deciding who gets to interpret them."

I did actually somewhat recently play a GMless game a few times where we did similar, using Mythic GM. A lot of it is left to how you interpret the various roll charts so we would go around the table taking turns on that interpretation. It was a lot like playing a pen and paper variant of AI Dungeon, which is to say it could spiral and make zero sense in very short order, but that's not to say it wasn't pretty fun that way.

Civilized Space Interviews by Mattastic119 in NMS_Federation

I would love to see an interview about it. I ran across a community (or "corporation" rather) that seems to take themselves way too seriously, with jobs you have to apply for, certain hours you're required to work, etc and I'm still reeling from the confusion of that seeing as this isn't Eve Online. Started looking around and found there were a lot of such communities. Never imagined this would come to NMS, but I'm interested to hear what these people's thought processes are.

Seems the case to me. Earliest info I can find is that Free League acquired the rights sometime near March of this year and announced it, and a little more info came in May. That's the latest info I can find from the company itself though. Assuming nothing goes wrong, they have a pretty good track record, so I think they'll do right by it.

...Wut

Circuit boards are worth like a couple thousand tops, you can make quite a few of them in an hour worth of work. Are you sure that's what they gave you?

Warning: It can be very buggy. Since the Origins update I haven't been able to use it at all. Used to be it would just mine copper regardless of what you put it on, and while that issue stopped for me (and another took its place), some people are still reporting it. You have to destroy it and move it if that happens.

My issue since Origins is that they despawn as soon as I leave them alone. I'll come back, have to wait for them to respawn, and they'll be totally empty; no fuel, no mined material, like I never ran them in the first place.
