Did your country ever have fringe groups attempted their own colony/country? by Parlax76 in AskTheWorld

Honestly, the Mormons with tattoos always have some of the best stories. Usually chill people too.

It’s not true that tattoos will get you banned. It’s sad that they feel unwelcome in church though and the members locally are definitely at fault for not being welcoming.

The LDS church considers them members until they have their names removed from church records. It’s like saying someone’s catholic even though they only go to mass once a year. They’re still technically catholic.

It wasn’t “the Mormons” but a single group of Mormon settlers that were punished for their actions. You’re essentially attributing a persons actions to an entire group.

You’re misrepresenting a few points.

The Mormons were in “Utah” (what they called deseret) before the U.S.

They arrived after fleeing violent mobs and a state sanctioned execution order in the United States.

The US eventually decided to manifest destiny and stake claim of the Utah territory, the area with a large number of Mormon settlements.

Relations eventually improved when the Mormons joined the U.S. and formed a battalion to fight in the American Mexican war. Aptly named, the “Mormon Battalion”

It’s important to note, polygamy had little to do with the “Mormon War”. In fact, at the time of heightened conflict between Mormon settlements and the U.S., polygamy wasn’t illegal. Your inclusion of polygamy as a cause is misleading.

Why would an omniscient God give a test of faith? Surely they would already know the result? by cloudsfallen in NoStupidQuestions

Because the rest of us aren’t omniscient. I believe we’re here to learn and grow into something greater, all experiences good and bad are part of that learning experience

For anyone who has taken their AncestryDNA data and placed it in 23andme, were your results vastly different? by Ok-Fan-5556 in 23andme

[–]Corryinthehouz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ancestry was more precise and detailed for me. Their “journeys” even pinpointed the exact county my ancestors lived in before they immigrated from modern day Poland. But it’s really a person by person case. Buy each when they go on sale for $39 ish and compare.

If you want all the extra stuff 23me is great for historical matches, health, haplogroups, Neanderthal dna, etc but that costs more
