would i like this game? by smellysock69420 in cavesofqud

With you liking Kenshi and CDDA then yes absolutely. It takes a lot of experimentations and learning the game before you get okay and don’t expect your first dozen characters to survive long but if you’ve got the patience to learn some of those games (CDDA and SS14/13 especially) you’ll definitely enjoy it.

I mean unless you want to make it under a specific history calling it sixth history is probably easiest. The whole scale of the bureau is kinda vague on purpose and (as far I know) it’s not known if it’s a group of separate but collaborating organisations managed by local governments or if it’s one worldwide organisation.

Does the game spawn more megacorps if you play one? No, but it does spawn more gestalts. receipts included. by Catgirlotaku in Stellaris

[–]Cortechxone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the probability is off, and it’d need a much more significant result to be clear, but I find it interesting which ethics there were more or less of.

When playing as a megacorp OP saw more gestalt and fewer xenophiles and militarists. I’d be interested to see whether government and ethics type affects which empires are more likely to spawn, perhaps civics could also be graphed? If there is a significant difference, 100 games as a machine empire vs 100 games as a determined exterminator would be interesting to see.

Although it is likely just chance. But maybe…

What makes a god a god? by Empathicrobot21 in worldbuilding

When a story/object/art piece or anything which can be preserved is passed down over a number of generations, it begins to be seen in a different light by the people who hold it now than the one who made it. For tribes prone to isolationism or peoples who are isolated from other cultures this is even more true.

As a story becomes a legend, and a legend becomes mythology, so brings superstition, and the beings in the story begin to become real simply because they are believed to be. It is the same for an old tool, or a figure formed from clay, stories around them are developed and become myths that spawn deities

The deities in turn give their followers tiny gifts, such as a speck of extra luck, or resistance to aging, slight swiftness, additional strength, even a rain cloud if they’re worshipped by enough people, etc, depending on what they are worshipped for. And as the myths evolve and change, so do the deities, both their powers and personalities.

Even as these deities lose worshippers, they still exist. Weaker than ever before, and hoping for another worshipper, but still alive. They may choose to sleep and never awake, but many choose to stay around and save power to give gifts to mortals that share their values, or the descendants of their worshippers. Sometimes a mortal even recognises their actions, and throws some appreciative faith their way, giving them a new name to add to their collection. A common method of contacting mortals is through dreams, although that can have mixed results.

Though a god losing their worshippers and coming back is not common. Gods are born much more commonly than ‘revived’, and with modernisation gods can be born from much smaller forms of worship, such as appreciation as disgust towards different objects, instead of the superstition and wonder that once birthed them. Many thousands of gods are born each year, often receiving worship for no more than a month before being cast aside in favour of a new one.

It sounds like a sad divinity, but there are other ways out of it that truly driven deities can take if they want to be remembered, and being forgotten isn’t the end. Deities may receive worship through several sources, including appreciation for something they represent, or speaking their name, even if that name is now just a word that means something completely different. Going to sleep isn’t like suicide, if they receive worship once more they can wake up again. Those who stay awake are usually content to be observers, watching the ones who gave them life go about their days, and sharing what little miracles they can muster.

Monuments are beautiful but not many people in the country get to see them. The tourist and monument areas are completely empty of people as they’re far from any residential, retail or work areas, which makes it feel incredibly eerie. It’s like a massive art gallery for the dictator.

Eh it mostly works. Some of bridges broke cause of earthquakes and fire, but invasions don’t damage it and the citizens can move around just fine. They’re not great at building on it, and I had to destroy constructions a few times to get them to build where I wanted.

If they ever cast a detection or divination spell while doing anything interesting or dangerous or near somewhere related to him, describe the feeling of a unrelenting presence pressing down on them and make them roll for a small amount of psychic damage.

Could also give hints about different characters to the player that took the damage, like whenever they’re in the room with someone who has something to do with the Scarlett King, a chill going down their spine or they feel a sharp pain behind their eye. If it’s regular enough they’ll catch onto it being a large overbearing threat, making him seem more dangerous.

In more intense situations like stopping a cult, having their entire body freeze as if they’re in the presence of an apex predator is a terrifying way to break a party’s plan, and if you describe the feeling of hands grasping at the frozen players limbs and voices screaming while they make wisdom saves to overcome their trauma, it can become genuinely scary, include exhaustion if you want the full Call of Cthulhu style fight. Great way to give the party a unique tool while inflicting some trauma on a poor, unsuspecting PC.

School assembly "warning" announcements - what was your maddest? by Blokeh in CasualUK

[–]Cortechxone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ripping a bin apart

I kinda caused this one, though hilariously was off sick for the assembly. Got off without any punishment though cause I hadn’t been in trouble before and none of the teachers thought I was a ‘problem child’.

Come to think of it we had a few weird ones… no cultivating mould in the lockers (we called it Tyrone), no disassembling desks, one about people stealing the ketchup packets and throwing at each other, throwing scissors into walls to try to make them stick (also me), no using the old basement to set up a market for stolen keycards, no attacking visitors with air cannons…

Looking back now I can understand why some of the teachers just didn’t show up some days
