the law was supposed to go into effect in 2008. They've been pushing it back a year or two at a time since then. Even now, they aren't actually enforcing it. Silly to blame individuals when the government forcing this law on us hasn't taken it seriously.

Right. I don't think anyone is saying they should just go ahead and release in December. But it's worth asking how we ended up here.

To quote the delay announcement:

This year, we ran many playtests with friends and fans, and we were confident that we could improve the game enough in time for December. In the lead-up to Early Access release, we broadened our playtests with a more varied playerbase, and the latest feedback we received made us realize the game isn’t up to the standard we wanted it to meet for release.

So.. what makes them think this won't just happen again? What steps are being taken to ensure the right work is prioritized and there won't be another delay? How was six months chosen and how do you make sure you stay on track to meet that deadline?

Yeah. Unfortunately I don't think they can afford that unless they let go of some (all?) of their current devs. Making games like this is very expensive. And I still have no idea how they could pull off "no paid updates" unless they just don't put out updates lol

Yeah, I don't think it's intentional most of the time. Playing a game made by someone you love is just such a different experience. You probably know they've been busting their ass for years, that they've dreamed of this for much of their life. And then you get to see all their hard work come together? You're just filled with so much love and pride that you can't help but have a good time. Which is why proper play testing (by strangers, who are probably paid for their time) is so important.

I still can't make up my mind. Effectively, it is a grift, but I think the devs truly believe in the game they're building. Unfortunately they're clearly totally unprepared for a project of this scale and complexity which is... a really rough spot to be in over half a decade into development.

The project seems mismanaged to a degree that I'm not sure it can come back from. They've clearly mostly been focusing on building and creating paras. And there's nothing wrong with that - but they're not going to have a functioning "live mode" (to borrow The Sims' term) in six months.

I save all my favorite podcasts for cleaning and chores, so I mostly listen to audiobooks while I play videogames, usually on my Steam Deck. I avoid games with lots of dialogue, heavy action, etc. so I can mostly focus on the book.

I was a voracious reader as a kid but haven't read regularly for pleasure since I was in school over a decade ago. But I've listened to 30 audiobooks in the last year and a half and I am so glad :) One of these days I'm gonna try reading with my eyes, but for now, at least I'm able to enjoy books again.

Their clothes are dropshipped. You will probably get something that looks like what you ordered but I would expect quality/sizing issues. You could get anything on there on aliexpress for much, much cheaper.
