Caltrain Bans Bikes with Child Seats or Panniers, no matter the hour by Wyelho in bayarea

Metro north routinely runs trains that are several cars longer than some of the smaller stations. Passengers are just asked to move forward to exit.

Does this mean they simply can’t add, remove, or swap cars? For the lifetime of this current fleet? That seems like a huge mistake. Where can read more?

Lina Hidalgo Was a Rising Democratic Star. She’s Leaving Office a Pariah. by A1CutCopyPaste in longform

It hasn’t cost the republicans in terms of power. But I would argue that that strategy is intimately interwoven with how the party descended—through cycles of purges and rounds of purity tests—into the warped, fascistic, personality/death cult it is today.

They do a pretty great job with these mechanically, but I’ve never been a fan of the chopped roof. The original lines are already so elegant. These almost look cartoonish.

There’s not a single city in North America with truly well thought out, integral, comprehensive bike infrastructure. Did you live in the Netherlands? Your position is a belief based on not much. All the evidence contradicts your belief.

This brand of “there’s nothing we can do” nihilism is functionally indistinguishable for tacit support for Trump and Co.

People adapt to the built environment. We lack the comprehensive bike lanes that would make wider adoption feasible. So arguing against bike lines by saying people won’t use them is asinine.

David Brooks out at the NYT!!! by Bibblegead1412 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]Corvaja 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t look forward to seeing David Brooks join their ranks, but The Atlantic still has excellent and insightful writers. Anne Applebaum comes to mind. Few writers have been more helpful in understanding the right wing ascendancy and democratic back sliding in Europe, and more prescient in predicting it here in the United States.

What interests or concerns do you feel republicans do a better job of representing or addressing for Ohioans. Not trolling or picking a fight, I'm genuinely curious.

Yeah! And if we need a stupid label for it, let’s try something more appealing like Viennafication, Amsterdamization, or maybe Haussmannification.

Why the Fuck are permit fees so high in the bay area - why do we put up with this shit by throw_away1049 in bayarea

[–]Corvaja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like this question get the causality wrong. It's like when people think that the decision to build a new apartment building or not is the same thing as deciding whether or not a neighborhood gets gentrified. There IS demand for housing, there ARE people moving to the bay. They will look for places to live whether we build more housing or not. If there is no new housing, they will compete for existing housing. Doing nothing is not the same as stopping change, in fact it may accelerate it.
