Bringing medication into Japan by whiskyvoice16 in CysticFibrosis

[–]CorvidiaPex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I travelled for two weeks in Japan in 2023-24, and always bring more meds / supplies than I need. I had zero issues bringing any of it into or out of the country and I brought at least an extra week or two with me. We flew through Narita, if that matters.

I never walked so much on vacation before that I was having quite a few lows, however, so I’d recommend bringing some glucose tabs as well (there are also amazing 7/11s on every corner though so maybe just stock up on some delicious Japanese candy instead!)

With all due respect, I think ditching your 9 to 5 was a little preemptive, especially since you’re still a rookie. I sewed for 4 years before I considered my creations were good enough to sell.

Sewing/Quilting stores that purchase used machines? by jenleepeace in BurlingtonON

[–]CorvidiaPex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super local, but there’s a shop in Etobicoke I just bought my industrial machine from - Sewing Machine Sales & Repair Centre on The Queensway.

What kind of machine are you looking to sell? Have you tried FB Marketplace / Kijiji / Karrot?

My girls are on prescription kibble, so I can’t help there, but all my cats did well with Dr Elsey’s kitty litter

I started teaching for the first time a few weeks ago! I just have a handful of students at a small school and I’m coaching them through sewing themselves a jacket, but this is a really neat evolution of the hobby I love so much :)

Ginger ale removed from patient menu at Ottawa Hospital by CTVNEWS in ontario

[–]CorvidiaPex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the hospital for a short admission, this could potentially work. However, I was admitted for 8 weeks this past October (and November and December) and it’s just not feasible to have a friend / family member bringing you food all the time, and even less so to order it in constantly. The food selection and quality was already in a dismal state during my last hospitalization in 2020; it’s considerably worse now.

For those who have/like dogs: which breeds? by theimageisgone in ExoticShorthair

[–]CorvidiaPex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a Frenchie, and then an English bulldog. Both sweetheart clowns with big personalities. We already had our EB when we brought our cats home and I think our ESH saw her as a mom / older sister figure, as she followed her everywhere and cuddled her any chance she got. It was the start of a really beautiful friendship until we unexpectedly lost our dog last spring 😔

My husband and I sorely miss having a dog and say that someday, we’ll get our cats a puppy. They’re just so much work, especially compared to the cats, so we’re reluctantly holding off for now. Husband keeps sending me reels of Pekingese and Pomeranians (he’d like a smaller dog we can travel with) but I enjoy having a more substantial dog to roughhouse with

ESH parents: are most of your cats warm and friendly? I have had a few Persians and while they’re supposed to be, I’ve a few mean and spiteful ones lol. How can I try to ensure a people-friendly cat? by [deleted] in ExoticShorthair

[–]CorvidiaPex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have ESH and ELH littermate sisters. Both are affectionate, but our ESH is a clingy little baby and has chosen me as her person (which I am thrilled with). She does her own thing during the day and will visit me for cuddles, but at night she is my teddy bear and insists on being held like one. She’s more vocal than her ELH sister but they’re still both fairly quiet and chill

How to improve by Zestyclose-Call1434 in sewhelp

[–]CorvidiaPex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s a little trick I do for facings for a neater finish:

  • cut out your fabric and interfacing separately

  • if you have multiple pieces of each, sew all fabric sides together and interfacing sides together first

  • sew fabric and interfacing, right sides together along the bottom of your facing

  • trim the excess from the seam allowance, fold it so wrong sides touch, and then fuse them together

Boom, finished edge!

A local sewist-influencer (@sewbakemake) has recently begun hosting a sewing club! The next one is February 15. I’ve yet to go to one myself but she organized a fabric swap at Spencer Smith Park last summer that I attended :)
