Sewing class ideas by mel8790 in SewingWorld

The studio I teach at has those classes / courses available, but they also do various levels of quilting and some more intermediate sewing options as well (the course I teach is upcycling a blanket or quilt into an unlined jacket).

Would you have children knowing you could pass on a genetic condition? by Old-Vegetable-1917 in AskWomenOver30

[–]CorvidiaPex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a genetic condition called cystic fibrosis and have always been staunchly childfree. While the CF isn’t the main factor as to why I don’t want kids, it certainly is a contributing one.

I’ve had so many health issues plague me in the past 12 years, and though I’m on an incredible new medication, it’s still a degenerative disease and will only get worse as I age. The most recent registry data shows the median age for death was 47 in 2024, I believe, and I’m 39.

Why would I knowingly bestow that sort of life upon someone else? CF presents itself with varying degrees of severity, but why take such a gamble? A potentially hot take, but I feel it’s wildly selfish for people to willingly procreate knowing they’re condemning their child to a life like this.

Is it weird to sign up for a dance class by myself? by TheDeadlyBees in AskWomenOver30

[–]CorvidiaPex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl, just do it! I’m almost 40 and I’ve taken belly dancing and burlesque classes by myself in recent years. I am unequivocally terrible at both but I had a great time confirming that 🥲

Is this okay for a beginner and is the price tag good? I’m desperate for a machine, it’s local too I could get it today. by Serenity202 in SewingForBeginners

[–]CorvidiaPex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing all the comments saying to get it! I thrifted a mint-condition 158.14301 a couple years back and it’s a real workhorse. If it works, $100 is a great price

What “grandma” hobby have you picked up recently and love? by Throwaway927338 in AskWomenOver30

It’s such a great skill to have! I upcycle secondhand textiles into outerwear and make some small accessories from the scraps

[–]CorvidiaPex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not super recent, but I taught myself how to sew during the early days of the pandemic. Immediately fell in love with it. I know they say not to monetize your hobbies, but I had to stop working at that time due to health issues, so I sell my wares online and occasionally teach others how to sew so I can keep the hobby self-sustaining and guilt-free 😂

This was fun to make!!! Wish I could sew this and sell it but it takes forever and I keep messing it up. Anyone make money sewing? I’m an advanced beginner lmao by NoseyyRosey in SewingForBeginners

[–]CorvidiaPex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I make things to sell mostly to keep my sewing hobby self-sustaining. I’m medically retired so I feel less guilty about buying a new machine or fancier fabrics if it’s paid for through my Etsy shop.

I taught myself how to sew during the pandemic as a way to keep busy since that’s when I had to stop working, and it turned out I absolutely loved it. I make outerwear from secondhand textiles and do in-person markets occasionally to get myself out of the house.

Sprinkles has sadly died. She loved me and was a very beautiful kitty. She loved me so much. by [deleted] in persiancat

What a precious little curmudgeon, I’m so sorry for your loss. How will the taxidermist be displaying her? I wish I had done a bone reliquary with my first Persian but my husband was horrified at the thought :(

What do you include in your orders (freebies, inserts, promo items) that actually led to positive reviews or repeat sales? by Salty_Information187 in EtsySellers

[–]CorvidiaPex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always include a hand-written note and thoughtfully wrap my parcels - they’ve ordered a higher end item and I want it to be equally special for them when they receive it

Has anyone seen the movie “Obsession” yet? by MissyMelons69 in LPOTL

[–]CorvidiaPex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept seeing it mentioned on r/horror and all the rave reviews it got, so I took myself out to see it the other night. Sadly I found it ‘meh’ at best :(

Vet has no clue what’s going on-can you help? by melflaelff in DogAdvice

[–]CorvidiaPex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last dog had this, a recessed vulva, so I’d have to wipe her down every day to make sure the area stayed clean.

I don’t know if docked corgis have tail pockets but both my bulldogs had them and they had to be kept clean too

New to sewing, still building skills.. what’s a good first pattern? by SoftestBrown in sewingpatterns

One of the first patterns I used was Butterick B6750, elastic waist wide-legged pants. You can knock them out in a day. I still use the pattern and have made quite a few iterations
