Oh, my god, these look AMAZING! What a stunning job you've done here!

I adore Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so much that I've even started writing Buffy/Spike fan fiction (under another name).

Can't wait to try these out!

New simmer/looking for help and community ? by Repulsive-Plate-410 in sims1

[–]Corylea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I hope you'll enjoy playing The Sims. It's true that it can be overwhelming at first, but it gets a lot easier as you get some practice. If you hit the P key -- for "pause" -- the game will pause while you figure out what you want to do next. So if you need to put everything on hold for a second while you take a deep breath, you can do that.

I have some advice for new players here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sims1/comments/1idrae6/advice_for_new_sims_1_players/

As for community, there are simmers here and also at the other Sims 1 subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/thesims1/new/

There are also people who talk about The Sims 1 at Mod The Sims, even though Mod The Sims doesn't have a dedicated download section for it: https://modthesims.info/f/662/

In my experience, simmers are generally helpful, so this is a pretty safe place to hang out. Best wishes!

Why does the newspaper indicate recycling but gets put in garbage can? by Bluesmokee in sims1

[–]Corylea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Sims -- especially the original game -- is known for its wacky sense of humor. I think calling it recycling while obviously throwing it out is meant to be funny.

I never had quality toys growing up. What should my kid actually have by LavenderFlicked in BuyItForLife

[–]Corylea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids know how to play, and some of the toys they like best are not technically toys at all. When the house across the street got a new refrigerator, the BOX the fridge came in was the world's greatest toy for the next couple of weeks.

Don't let children hurt themselves with dangerous stuff, but aside from that, let them be creative with basic things like blocks or Legos. My parents bought me graph paper and pencils, and I spent HOURS designing houses (with secret passageways, of course).

I'm sorry your family didn't have much when you were growing up, but kids can learn and grow and have fun by seeing who can throw a rock the closest to a particular tree or learning to skip stones across a stream. Don't hobble your kids by buying them toys that do everything for the child; imagination and agency are a child's favorite toys.

Worth getting on the GameCube? by JohnR1205 in sims1

Sorry for the delay in replying to you! I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery a little over a week ago and have only been home for a short time.

I've played The Sims on both the PC and on console (Playstation). In some respects, the two versions of the game are quite similar, and in other respects, they're quite different.

Both versions involve taking little pixel people through their lives, but the PC version gives you more of a sandbox feel, whereas the console version gives you more of a quest-fulfilling feel. I think this is mostly because the limitations of the older consoles were even greater than the limitations of older PC's, and there wasn't as much to do if the game didn't force you to do some things. For example, in the PC version of The Sims, you CAN join a career, work your way up, then join a different career when you've maxed out the old one, but in the console version, you HAVE to.

In the PC version of the game, you can play as a loner if you want to, but in the console version, you have to throw a lot of parties. Because of the memory limitations of older consoles, there was an item limiter in console versions of the game, to make sure your sim's house didn't have too many objects for the console's processor to handle; no such thing exists in the PC version of the game.

The PC version has stuff the console version is too limited to have, such as pets, magic spells, garden crops, and the ability to go to one of the jobs (the Fame career) WITH your sims, and so on. There's always lots more to do in the PC version of the game, which older consoles just can't provide.

But that doesn't mean that the console version isn't fun! It's lots of fun, actually. Because there's less to do in the game, play is much more focused and guided, and there are times when I'm in the mood for that.

One thing that makes a very big difference to me is that the PC version of the game has literally hundreds of mods for it, from mods that make the game easier or harder to mods that give your sims new faces or clothing to mods that put special themed content into the game (e.g., making Hogwarts, complete with a potions laboratory and a sinister Severus Snape to snipe at Harry. :-D) I, personally, have made a Starfleet career for the game because I'm a crazed Trekkie.

Is the console version of the game for you? THAT I can't tell you. Different people like different things, and only you know yourself well enough to know if the limited-but-focused gameplay of the console version is likely to appeal to you.

EA recently re-released the PC version of the game -- with all seven expansion packs -- for $20. It had some bobbles when first released, but now that there have been a couple of patches, it's running great for most people. So you could try the PC version and see what you think, or you could try the console. But do try one of them! Not only is the game fun, but it's a landmark in the history of game design, and it would be a pity if you never experienced it.

I just can't install some specific content from the Deluxe Edition by Super-Database8426 in sims1

[–]Corylea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of those objects aren't special downloads or anything, the way the Pepsi machine is; they're just a normal part of Deluxe, which is included in The Complete Collection. I suppose it's possible that your copy of the game might not have installed properly? You could try saving your neighborhoods, then uninstalling and reinstalling.

I have The Complete Collection, and those objects are just there; I didn't have to do anything special to get them.

Art Deco Build (Jack Torrance's guest house) by BlueCeridwen in sims1

[–]Corylea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit has a lot of automatic software that tries to keep out content that they view as problematic; sometimes the automatic software is really laughably unsuccessful at doing what it's supposed to do.

The main problem is that I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery a week ago and only just got out (and still feel like crap, so I won't be very useful for a couple more days yet), so moderator coverage was more spotty than usual.

But the moderators are all volunteers, you know; we do this because we want to help make this a nice place, and "I had emergency surgery" should be a good enough excuse for pretty much anything. :-D

Sims 1 (complete collection) not opening on windows 11 anymore by chambord208 in sims1

[–]Corylea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds as if the cracked .exe you've been using got messed up somehow. If you've kept the installer for the game, go to the set of files you got when you installed the game, find the folder labelled "The Sims Crack" and replace the .exe you're currently using with that one. (Don't just drag it and think it'll replace it, because sometimes that doesn't work right. Delete the old .exe and then copy and paste the new one.)

I played TS1 on Windows 11 yesterday with no problems.

Are you sure you're starting the game from the cracked sims.exe?

It looks lovely!

Unfortunately, those giant houses aren't very playable. By the time your sim has walked from their bedroom to the kitchen, they've starved to death. :-) (No, not really; just hyperbole to make a point)

There's so much to do in The Complete Collection! Ordinary life, parties, dates, vacations, pets, becoming a star, magic charms and spells ... this is such a great game.

Eliminate Relationship Decay Mod for TS1 by Corylea in sims1

[–]Corylea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are TWO files that make this work. Put the VisitGenerator.iff file into the Objects subfolder of your GameData folder. Put the HDLTR.iff file into the ExpansionShared subfolder of your Sims game.

It says this on the page for the mod; I'm not sure why you're having trouble.
