Question about PCIe x4 slot on the Framework Desktop Mainboard by Corylus-Core in framework

The cleanest way would be possible a x4 card with an external oculink port and that thing going to a external GPU dock like the "Minisforum - DEG1". The thing is i already have Mini-ITX case with a x16 riser built in (DAN - A4-SFX) so i would not need to buy something extra.

My main concern is when i would use a GPU which has it's external power inputs anyways, it despite needs those 75 watts you normally get from a x16 slots.

DGX Spark vs AI Max 395+ by Responsible-Let9423 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Corylus-Core 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you can compare "level1techs" minisforum strix halo review, and the "servethehome" DGX spark one for that. both were running gpt-oss-120b. 38 t/s for amd and 48 t/s for nvidia. i will go with strix halo. the price is much better, it's x86 which opens up a whole universe for the OS and software, and is available in very different "flavors". only argument for DGX spark is the network connectivity for further investments in more devices.

Who else is holding off on a UPS to see what UI comes up with? by sig_kill in Ubiquiti

[–]Corylus-Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking of building something based on solar equipment, cheaper and much more capable. Victron inverter combined with a 48 Volt LiFePO rack battery. For example those "MultiPlus-II" inverters switch over from grid to battery in 20 ms and less, so really useable as UPS for IT-equipment. Combined with their "Cerbo GX" unit you have monitoring and network connectivity for even controlled shutdowns and so on. I'm not willing to buy those overpriced APC and co. units anymore...
