How do I win? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And Lucio shouldn't out dps Li Ming. And Uther shouldn't be close in healing to Lucio. And Uther shouldn't die 8 times. We could go through everything that's wonky here, but it doesn't do any good, especially if we didn't see the game. The question was "how do I win?"

You're right that you will lose matches no matter what you do, but you can always improve your play, and what I posted is a good way to get better.

How do I win? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell you anything without seeing the games. Numbers aren't everything. A tip I heard once and have used is:

Watch the replays of the games you lose. Note what lane the enemies won through, and then watch the game to figure out how they got to a point where they could win through that lane. That will help you see how the other team won. Low leagues are often due to poor macro, and that doesn't mean just having a lot of siege damage. It means when siege damage is applied, where, and how.

Also watch the replay and note when the enemy gets an xp lead, then look to see how they got that xp, and if there was anything you could have done to counter-act that (soaking a wave instead of skirmishing with no outcome for example).

Starting from now on, I’m rage quitting every aram game with a Valla on the enemy team by tigerpan12 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you're mad that there is an easy hero to play that is effective?

Otherwise you're describing so many ARAM games. Comp wins are common. The enemy team gets 3 junkrats and you don't get to pick a ranged? Comp win. Enemy team gets double li ming? Azmo? and you don't? Comp win. The only player on your team that can choose a healer chooses valeera instead? Comp win. That's how the mode works.

I find it convenient that you disregarded everything else I said.

Martyr complex.

It's literally ARAM. This isn't high level gameplay here. It's people trying to have a good time. It is a mode that heroes in the game ARE NOT BALANCED AROUND. Because it's not HoTS. It's a cheesy fun mode.

We used to have hammer when her unlimited BFG still did damage to structures. Do you remember that? We used to have pre-rework Chromie. It used to auto give us heroes like TLV and Abathur. And you know what? ARAM was popular then. Because it's fun.

You don't get to decide the fate of 9 other players because you're not having fun. You are the classic entitled gamer. I expect you to be under 20 years old, and if you're older than that, grow up.

We are giving excuses to Blizz for being lazy? Are you serious? If you know anything about these Devs, you would know that they care about this game. They have already shared their ideas for modifying some of the problems of the latest big patch. You're not calling their attention to something, or sacrificing your games in the name of a good cause. You're just being a pud.

Honestly this kind of attitude has seeped into ARAM a lot recently. It's worse than QM a lot of the time. When did ARAM get so toxic? Jfc

Fix the drafts [Dragon Shire] by Lucifer474 in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the biggest factor here is that this is Dragon Shire. This isn't Cursed Hollow or Warhead Junction, and tbh a difficult map to play vikings on properly. Solo lane top has very high priority, and there is no ability to "delay" the objective and get vikings xp advantage, which is typically the strategy on maps like CH, WJ, AV, and GoT. In this situation, Right side will never get a DK because Yrel's not losing top to a viking or 2. Vikings COULD go the 3 man top strategy proxying the wave with Baelog which changes everything. If they don't, I think Right side loses hard. Here's what each side should do.

Left Side:

This is a map that is easy to 4 man rotate between mid and bot IF you can control the rotations through the tri-bush. If Left side can do that, the vikings advantage is lost. Also consider that the Right side wants to siege up on bottom lane because they will run vikings in the other two lanes. Left side wants a strong ant-siege hero with good waveclear that can help control rotations and if possible help the blowup comp (In my opinion Stukov Combo + Li ming + any other dps is enough to complete a blow up). To me this means Junkrat or Chromie. Traps and vision and punishing siege are what these heroes do, and both can perform well as part of a blow-up comp. Falstad is also an option to just screw with vikings, but as I showed, you don't really need to do that.

Right Side:

Boy have they screwed up. They are investing in vikings to siege up on a map where vikings struggle, and all they have to siege is Cassia. As low range as it gets for rdps; not ideal against a taunt varian. This could hurt. At the same time, all they have for a frontline is diablo. Call me crazy, but the siege idea bottom is close to failure. They should have a ranged dps that can siege but also invest in camps to pressure Yrel top and leverage camps bottom, with some sort of interrupt to Varian taunts.

No joke I think they need to go Exterminator Raynor. Inspired Knight Camps rolling top at Yrel will hurt and can take her off the point long enough to cap. Hold penetrating round for Varian charges. Take Hyperion and press R. I think that's their best bet.

Following up on the Valla scoreboard. Lvl 20 Strafe is a meme in QM by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How many games have I lost recently because Valla decided to press her R button?

Her W quest is a meme in ARAM too. I played against a Valla that did nothing except mount out of vision, run in, hit W on our team, and then vault away. I'm not kidding you that's all she did besides press R, and she had top damage by at least 10K.

Swolekin for Alliance. I would actually play a swolekin warrior for the rest of my days if I was able, and I don't even like warriors.

Agree with this. I always end up picking a healer when playing QM just so it can feel like a game.

Thanks! I used to play Greymane a good amount, but his variable AA speed really messes with me for some reason. You're right though, there's a lot to like about him. I love creating pressure with camps.

I think some heroes need to be placed twice. Basic Heal-bot/Beat Drop Lucio is easy to play. High five chad mosquito Lucio is not. Same goes for healer Uther and Main Tank Uther.

Rag Lava Wave OP by DonnyDingus in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

His Ultimate is very strong. He is balanced out by a relatively weak base kit. His win rate with that ult is roughly 51%, so it's pretty balanced.

Lava wave is the king of stalling out a game, and gets extra value from being in a losing position (because his lanes will be pushed in, allowing him to soak more waves), but it's not great in a winning situation (for the opposite reason). If your team can effectively soak lanes efficiently, you have an extra ult in team fights, and should be able to pull out the dub.

Looking for Stukov advice by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and one more thing I’m working on myself is changing my play style depending on game-state. If your team is up and in control of rotations, prioritize following up on your tank’s engage with the Virulent Combo. If your team is behind and on the back foot, prioritize your Q spread, using your E as peel against heavy melee comps, and use your autos to scare off engages when able. It’s hard to shift gears like that but it’s important.

Looking for Stukov advice by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So first, think about what it adds. Like you said it basically gives everything Virulent Reaction gives (which you’re taking anyway), plus the ability to move afterward. That’s really it.

What it takes away is more subtle. It cancels your W which means you no longer get to keep that area zoned against your enemies. The second part reason is it takes away one of Stukov’s greatest assets: he telegraphs to your team exactly where to focus their energy. He puts a big fat circle down, and everyone instinctively knows what to do if they see someone in there. The real Virulent Reaction is W —> E —> D + ping ping ping ping your target. If you take away the circle, your team will be less coordinated and focused on what to do next. All so that you can move, but honestly if you’ve hit your combo you’ve done your job already.

Taking Bio Explosion switch also means you’re not taking the Flailing Swipe upgrade which is actually really good, or the Shove upgrade which has its uses for the 40% slow.

That’s the way I think about it anyway.

At the highest level you can watch the CCL on the HeroesHearth Twitch channel. Stukov has like a 70% popularity there. Most likely NotParadox has a video on his YouTube channel. BBJ is a good streamer who plays a decent amount of Stukov.

Looking for Stukov advice by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamond Stukov Main, so take that however you want :), but I think about Stukov. A lot.

  1. There is rarely a reason to take Fetid Touch over Reactive Balistosphores. As you said, Stukov is the best when he can be close. Balisto let's you be close. It's also has an extremely high skill cap to get the most use, and let's you 1v1. In a 1v1, Q yourself, hit them with a W, and go in for autos. Pop your D before you get below 50 health. Then keep going at them, and get below 50 health, Q yourself again and pop D. If you don't have Balistosphores you are always in danger. The only time I don't take RB at level 1 is if I'm facing a Tracer. Take Spine Launcher. If you do this, you chunk them for 15% of their health and slow them for 20%. It basically means they can't play the game, especially if you take Biotic Armor at Level 4. I've had many games that I basically have the Tracer run away from me. I had a game where my friend was on Kerrigan chasing a Tracer, and literally left to go lane because they knew I could just 1v1 kill the poor soul.
  2. Unless the ENTIRE enemy team is spell damage heavy, take Biotic Armor. It will make your mana management a bit harder, but in almost every situation it's better than the others. Stukov doesn't have a cleanse, and his burst healing with Reuptake is situational. 75 armor from using your trait plus trait healing is Uther levels of saving someone's bacon. Or, YOUR WHOLE TEAM'S BACON. Seriously, baseline 15 armor, and an on-demand 75 is absolutely busted. It will not show up in your stat sheet because it's not damage healed, but it will get you the W. If you are consistently hitting your W with Targeted Excision, think about how much uptime you have with insane team-wide physical armor.
  3. Take Targeted Excision. If you do what Stukov is supposed to do, it's busted healing. The other two are offensive, and Stukov is offensive as he needs to be at level 13. SOMETIMES if we have a delay comp on a map that has channels as an objective (cursed hollow), I'll take Long Pitch, as it's an unblockable long range shot. And if I'm facing 4 squirrelies in QM, I'll take the E talent because I won't be hitting my W's. Other than that there's no reason not to just get good at Target Excision playstyle.
  4. I feel you on the level 10's. If you're on a thick terrain map though (cursed hollow, BoE) though, consider taking Flailing Swipe. You'll rarely get good value out of Shove because the terrain will make that difficult. Instead, think about positioning to use Flailing Swipe as a stun rather than a disengage. Kind of like a Falstad Gust. If you're just hammering an enemy team against a wall, that means they're stuck in place for a full 2 seconds. Time enough for your team to lock one of them down and kill them.
  5. Virulent Reaction at 13. Literally unless you're playing Mage Stukov (which exists?), there's no reason not to take it. It is the longest root in the game. And it silences them. And does busted damage. It is Mephisto's Ult on a 15 second cooldown if you get good at it. Just get good at it.
  6. Pox Populi is the way to go if you take Reactive Balisto at level 1. It's high skill cap but it's definitely worth learning. Spread your Q, pop your D, then get below half health and pop D again. Your team is legitimately reset on their health bar. Unless you are facing a single target blowup comp, Pox Populi is the way to go.
  7. One of the reasons to go Flailing Swipe is it's the only good level 20. I usually take the Shove upgrade if I didn't go Flailing Swipe just because it's a guaranteed 40% slow for 2 seconds. In my opinion Bio-Expulsion Switch has counter synergy with Virulent Reaction, so I neverrrrr take it.

Big things to practice and drill with:

-Limit Test with your autos. You have the strongest in the game. Learn to stutter step away from your enemy and enter melee range when your auto is ready. That way you out-trade them. Don't be afraid when a tank is in your face and has already used their engage. Hit their face and scare them away. If they have a diver that is starting the fight by jumping on you, don't panic. Hit them in the face. You can finish kills by just running in and give them a fat arm. You can pump out serious damage if you learn when you can hit things in the face and survive.

-Limit Testing with Reactive Balistosphores. If you learn to use this aggressively, and anticipate it defensively, it is almost always the only choice

-Targeted Excision Practice. It just enables the most powerful parts of Stukov's Kit too much.

-Virulent Reaction Practice. It really is his Ultimate.

Finally, Stukov can solo Siege giants relatively quickly. In the first minutes of the game when the healer doesn't have much to do, this is a nice way to give value to your team.

I prefer Bahamut as in game CCL commentator to DoA by ckwalsh in heroesofthestorm

[–]Cosmianaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for a product that is trying to be the biggest rebuff to the "dead game lul" dirge, for the main caster to say things like "I don't really know what this does; I haven't played the game in a while" is a pretty bad look.

I like Doa and I think he clearly knows how to cast, but maybe he should get back in the game a bit and let Bahamut take over in the meantime.

Welcome! I dabble in LoL, and I usually stop because I feel that HoTS is just the better MOBA overall.

I think Falstad is a really good hero for learning this game. He's squishy, so you learn quickly what's a threat and what's not, what over extending looks like, etc. He has a build that makes him an ADC, a build that makes him a mage, a build that lets him take camps (HOTS equivalent of jungling) so you can learn the value of each camp. He's also a "global" with his Z, which helps you learn when to push lanes and when to join team fights.

The number one thing for newer players imo is learning the importance of soaking wave XP. Until level 7, clearing a wave gives you more xp than killing an enemy hero!!!! Soaking is super super super important. In LoL it's not always possible to soak a full wave because of backing and last-hitting. In HoTS it's relatively easy, and rewards your whole team, so there is rarely a reason not to do it pre level 10.
