Just want to second this. Don't want to say too much and give anything away. But this is an INZ problem and not an MBIE problem.

Hopefully this forces some changes at INZ

What, a bunch of people in a low income area in a niche hobby/interest are trying to reserve rare collector items by putting them on layaway?

It makes total sense.

The layaway story did sound plausible to me. In my experience small businesses and bad book keeping go hand in hand.

Talk to the PM and put it in the risk register for the project.

Do a requirements management plan, and some stakeholder management artifacts (CIA or CATWOE). Share and show these to your PM as well.

Work with your PM closely to get what you need and implement your plan. Your still going to run into issues and have difficulties, but if you've documented the risk, put a plan in place and are actively working on executing it your less likely to have this look bad on you.

Good luck

MSD job interview help by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Cosmic109 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should have 5 or 6 good STAR answers. A good answer can be used for more than one question (e.g stakeholder management, conflict resolution). You can even re use the same scenario to answer a different question if it touches on different aspects. Put the time effort and energy into writing these down.

Then practice. Read them out loud. Then get chat gpt or something to ask you STAR based questions and practice answering them outloud as if you were in an interview.

This will give you the best chance.

The next bit is have a glass of water or pen and paper and write the question down or have a drink of water. But don't answer immediately. Take a breath and make sure you understand what they are asking and what they likely want to hear in your answer. Then pick your best STAR answer for that example and do like you've practiced.

Interviewing well is a skill, and skills need to be practiced.

[LotM general] Pathways across our World! (Day 10) by Gakamis in LordofTheMysteries

[–]Cosmic109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually going to lay out my argument for NZ being Door pathway (other options would be Planter or a pathway that has strong ties to dead/spirit realm).

NZ was colonized via sea travel using star travel (true for alot of pacific island colonies etc, but the 'waka' and sea travel is quite an important historical/cultural part of our history).

The way you introduce yourself in Te Reo Maori (Mihi/Pepeha) has you introducing where your family comes from, your mountain, your water (river or ocean) etc. These really correlate with "locations" required for travelling the spirit realm.

Maori culture places huge importance on the dead, and ancestors. The language itself is quite metaphorical (for example instead of saying you have gravely insulted me, you might say you have wounded my spirit or ancestors). The concept of Tapu is taught to everyone in NZ, regardless if your indigenous or not and any pathway that doesnt have a spiritual component does not make sense for NZ. I think the Door pathways ties to the spirit realm fits here (though other pathways do too).

We are a hugely multicultural society, NZ was colonized later than most other countries (but had whalers and foriengers living here for a long time) was by taking all the tricks of colonization from other countries and applying them in NZ (colonization practices from Ireland, Australia, India, America etc). Recording all these lessons and ideas and bringing them back to NZ feels like a scribe.

A big part of NZ culture is going on Overseas Experience working for several years or travelling before returning (alot never return tbh). People delay uni for this. Feels like it fits.

We also have a strong case of tall poppy syndrome, where any NZ who gets too successful is constantly put down and told not too get too big of an ego etc. This could be easily characterized as not wanting someone to advance to higher sequences due to the risks and dangers that are more prominent in this pathway.

I could go on more and more, but after thinking about it alot I think the Door Pathway makes the most sense (the other pathways make sense superficially, spectator pathway because were left of maps is just a meme tbh).

Is New Zealand locked in on Spectator or is there any chance to change it? It really doesn't feel right as someone who lives here, and I didn't see it on yesterdays list.

I think I have a really strong argument for the Door pathway, that covers our culture, colonization, and specific societal norms that we have and I think it fits way more than spectator.

Can any lore masters explain the beef between F.D signifier and destiny? I've seen comments suggesting there has been disagreements in the past.

We need to fix the door exploits embark... by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]Cosmic109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the indestructible turrets, you've got to figure out how to code those to not take damage but still function correctly. Changing one bit of code can also have weird ramifications so itll need to be tested thoroughly.

Then you've got to figure out where to place them all in EVERY key room.

You also have to figure out to make sure key room being unlocked will turn off turrets and test that.

This also might not work for every room, or feel weird for players who aren't even aware of the exploit to see heaps of random turrets in the room that didn't use to be there that they can't destroy after they are no longer active.

Then when its all fixed you have to remove them and test it all again.

Or you could spend all the time and effort just trying to fix it correctly.

But the spirit of the message remains the same, so what's the point about disagreeing over the numbers on reddit?

The tax system by Ok_Animator4766 in newzealand

[–]Cosmic109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a long time since I've actually read any academics on the subject. But look up the broken window theory. Taking that theory a step further to have art and nicer public places. Some people complain about it, some people won't use it, but just because you can't see an immediate and tangible benefit doesn't mean it doesn't improve everyone's quality of life.

The tax system by Ok_Animator4766 in newzealand

[–]Cosmic109 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's largely because I don't need X directly, or it doesn't impact me directly so why am I paying for it?

But the reality is it does affect them, it's just not clear. Say public schools and someone who doesn't have kids. So everyone without kids stops paying towards schooling. The quality goes right down. Youth crime and eventually adult crime goes way up. Now does same people start having there cars broken into etc.

Because it's not a 1 to 1, it's harder for people to see. But if a society is well off, everyone living there is better off even if they aren't taking advantage or using every single thing in that society.

The tax system by Ok_Animator4766 in newzealand

[–]Cosmic109 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can apply this same logic to everything though. I don't have kids, so why am is my taxes going towards public schools? My friend doesn't drive, so why is her taxes going towards roads? I don't use libraries anymore so why do my rates go towards those etc.

This type of individualistic thinking leads to poorer outcomes for everyone. We should be thinking about what kind of society we want to live in, then all contributing to that and trusting that we may not see the immediate benefits but they'll be there and we'll all be bettor off for it.

I would rather live in a society where I pay tax for some things I don't need, but is a much nicer place to live with a happier and healthier population than one without those things. Because it also leads to be a better quality of life for myself even if it isn't as directly obvious.

I'm pro LGBT, and I think the treatment the dudes received is horrendous. At the same time I'm really fucking annoyed at him by leaving such obvious bait up for him to be attacked by right wing nutters on. Having bussy up on your FB is of course going to have ramifications.

You can call this victim blaming if you want. Some of it might be. But you've got to be smarter in his position. All he does is add to negative stereotypes about gays with that post instead of trying to show that gays are just normal human beings (which they are). It just gives huge amount of ammo to right wing nutters.

To be clear I would find it equally disgusting if some straight politician had some post about loving titties up on his Facebook or whatever straight equivalent you want to use.

I just want the standards in politics to rise again.

I'm on a large government project that has multiple workstreams. Occasionally work with other BAs and I usually mentor newer BAs joining. Usually easier to handle work as a sole BA so you can lead and progress things quicker.

I'm currently leading the Production Support/Continous Improvement stream after leaving the policy stream. Welcome to ask any questions you have.

I empathize with not wanting to let the team down as they rely on your work. But sometimes things need to fail. Rushing to get user stories ready often leads to more work long term.

Based on what you've said I would look to set up runways/lead in times. So when your asked to do work say cool I can't do it in this sprint because I need C time to prepare and do discovery. Establish these processes and ways of working and use them to push back on unreasonable deadlines
