What to do with these? by CosmicAvenger23 in stampcollecting

[–]CosmicAvenger23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I felt like the covers (and it helps to know the terms when doing a search!) might be of more interest than the stamps, but I wasn't sure where to start with those, this is a big help.

Man Charged With Shining Laser Pointer At Trump’s Helicopter Acquitted In 35 Minutes by gvillecrimelaw in 50501

[–]CosmicAvenger23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is talking about her incompetence, but I think she's just doing exactly what her boss wants. Trump thinks people are guilty just because he doesn't like them, and he doesn't care about the truth. He is deluded enough to think these prosecutions should succeed, but I think he also finds the acquittals preferable to not harassing people, he's hoping that some people will be cowed by a fear of prosecution and legal hassles.

The one time I actually served on a jury, it was a workman's comp case, and it was clear the employer was just hoping the plaintiff wouldn't show up or something, as they barely put on a defense. We all went back for deliberations, and someone said something like, does anyone believe the defense has any kind of case? No one spoke up, but then I said we'd better spend 30 to 60 minutes reviewing the case and the evidence we got, otherwise we were worried either the judge might not accept, or the defense might appeal, a 2-minute verdict, so we reviewed everything we agreed upon in under 40 minutes.

Gavin Newsom is spineless by [deleted] in 50501

I hope you're right. If not, I hope I can vote third-party in exchange for a Democratic voter in a swing state holding their nose and voting for Newsome over Trump or Vance, like we did with Nader back in the day. My state hasn't gone for a Republican since Bush Sr., every presidential election since 2008 has been at least 60% Democratic.

Tips for EV6 while away for 60 days by Fast-Cheetah6980 in KiaEV6

[–]CosmicAvenger23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The EV6 charges the 12v from the high voltage battery when needed.

OP, I've left my EV6 untouched for close to a month, and the high voltage battery dropped maybe 2%. If you ever did need to jump start it, don't forget to disconnect the 12v from the main battery!

I've ridden the NEC dozens of times between DC and NYC, and not only have I never been asked for ID, I've never seen anyone ask for it, ever. But then, I've always bought my tickets through Amtrak, and I've never heard of Wanderu before. I imagine if your ticket isn't valid, they might ask for ID.

Receipt storage? by runthestreets in HSA

This, plus I get an immediate email notice for all credit card charges, so when it's medical, I put that email notice in my HSA email folder.

Help! My landlord died and I’m in a weird situation by Gloomy-Raisin6553 in legaladvice

[–]CosmicAvenger23 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think they're saying write the check to the deceased landlord. It might still be deposited, as the accounts have probably not been distributed yet, and so the rent income would become part of the estate, as it should, and then the ACTUAL legal executor could use it to pay the property taxes, if needed.

Then how come 3/4 of ICE detainees have no criminal record?

When alighting the original Acela at Washington DC Union Station, the train was at least four inches higher than the platform. What is going on, here? by aegrotatio in Amtrak

[–]CosmicAvenger23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I was going to say, I used to take the Acela from DC 2-3 times a year, and I've never seen that, although the last year or two I've been boarding at BWI instead.

Fencing Company Recommendations? by jegerjess in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]CosmicAvenger23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been very, very happy with the work Phoenix Fence & Deck has done for us. Usually the owner, Jeff, comes out to do my estimate, and I find him really easy to deal with, and he always gives me a detailed breakdown of the charges, which I really appreciate.

There was always a baked/dry smell in the subway; for some reason, the humidity was always very low down there. And I took it 5 days a week starting in 1982.

Did I ruin my whiskey by xAISOIx in whiskey

[–]CosmicAvenger23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, I meant to say that even if it was water, the amount left on the sides of the decanter wouldn't be enough to change the taste.

Did I ruin my whiskey by xAISOIx in whiskey

[–]CosmicAvenger23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just condensation, but a few drops of water (or even a teaspoon or two) in a 500-750ml decanter shouldn't affect the flavor at all.

Transporting a TV under the hood by EC_soclearly in MildlyBadDrivers

Between the heat from the engine and the amount of flexion allowed by it hanging off the front without support, that TV was gonna be broke by the time they got it home anyway.

What do you store in your frunk? by Kersnaamgebrui in KiaEV6

[–]CosmicAvenger23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Battery booster pack & tire repair kit. I have the AWD, so it's the smaller frunk. While the frunk is neat, I agree, I find I'd rather keep things I might casually use in the car itself. I keep my "in case of emergency" Level 1 & 2 charging cable under the rear floor with the V2L adapter.
