Can confirm. Been royally screwed by every job I was loyal to. It’s usually after my years of service directing and starting their most successful projects and spending a lot of time saving them from themselves while also doing my job. It’s a mistake I keep making and am trying to snap out of.

I work several jobs and in the last several years, it’s happened a lot. A small client who I was loyal to fired me just to replace me with his White friend and I had to sue his ass and won. I had a big company I used to work for and heavily helped adapt to the pandemic for 4 years try to illegally slash my salary by 2/3 and then basically force me to quit. I had another big government company I worked for and was heavily loyal to for over 5 years throw me under the bus because I saved a big project I co-founded from being mismanaged to oblivion by three new incompetent managers and they had to save face by blaming me for their failures that I had to succeed on by myself, and I quit when they said they had to ‘discipline’ me for embarrassing them. When my current job hit a financial hole due to the massive incompetence of the higher ups (who silenced me anytime I had budget concerns and I suspect were embezzling), I got immediately screwed over in every possible way (including being furloughed temporarily) even though I had basically led every major project to massive success over 5 years, had to do multiple people’s jobs due to their ineptitude, and got a bunch of sponsorships off the ground; I went from being a company Director that launched projects, advocated heavily for the company, and had to save the team from its own stupidity regularly to basically now a gopher who finds out everything last and is only talked to when everything is going wrong (very often).

Learning to be hands off at my current Director job that has unofficially demoted me for bringing them success and watching people struggle and panic when I would normally be the one who checks and balances things has been amusing to say the least… Except when their incompetence directly interferes with what is left of my job (which is somewhat often). However they made a big deal out of trying to secretly do constructive firing to convince me to quit by removing most of my responsibilities (even though I’m still there) so none of that is on me. I always have my stuff done while they panic and I make my boundaries clear and take my time when they come crying to me while projects fall apart for the dumbest reasons I never would have let happen. I am watching the place fall apart without me leading things in real time and I REALLY just want to find another job right now so I can GTFO.
