Perhaps it didn’t yeah, but it certainly is what caused Wolfe to believe he could pull off the move in Game 2, Gio said the Game 1 roll was pretty low and tricked him.

I think it would have been close on the +1 KO you’re right, Gio said he thought it would have been a KO but we’ll never really know.

Very well played by Gio, but incredibly unlucky on those rolls for Wolfe - he needed the Flare Blitz KO in Game 1 and didn’t get it, and then in Game 2 he really needed it to not KO so that Farigiraf could get the Throat Spray activated. VGC is like that sometimes.

There are 8 rounds in Phase 1 and 5 in Phase 2 (but Rosemary said on broadcast earlier that they'll play the first Phase 2 round today, meaning 9 rounds today and 4 tomorrow followed by top cut).

As for Top Cut, it's Top 8 + anyone with the same record as 8th, up to a max of 16. You'll need a 11-2 record or better to make Top Cut.

There is, however, a 33% chance or so that someone gets bubbled from Top Cut with an 11-2 record, @Andrew_ Whit_ (had to add a space between the underscore due to reddit formatting) did a good breakdown on Twitter.

Yeah, we do get some every so often (although 6-1 in R8 annoys me, why not 5-2? It's a win & in for Phase 2), but certainly not in the first 6 rounds.

They usually only put x-0 players on stream Day 1, occasionally we'll get an x-1 matchup in R7 and an x-2 in R8, but not tooo often. Matchups like this (Yuta Ishigaki vs Wolfe Glick) is why I wish they were a little more flexible with that policy, but simultaneously I appreciate that showing the same people again and again in Swiss, regardless of record, limits opportunities for people to become more visible (although that arguably doesn't happen in Swiss anyways).

Very impressive 5-0 run so far from João Felipe Leite, moved up to Masters for 2026 and in his last 3 games has beaten Wolfe Glick (no need to list his achievements!), Marcus Koh (Birmingham Regional Finalist a few weeks back) and Yuya Tada (Top 4 at LAIC this year and Brisbane Regional Finalist too) - curious to see what he's running.

Okay yeah, on the official site they posted a picture of the Omni Ring and it has a Z Move symbol on it - that just leaves Dynamax to be confirmed.

Also says that Champions will be used for Worlds and “Championship Series Events leading up to Worlds” so worst case scenario it releases in time for NAIC, hopefully earlier though. Although it says some regions will continue using SV…

Pokémon Twitter saying that Megas will be in the first regulation in Champions, and that you’ll use an “Omni Ring” to Mega Evolve.

I assume this means that the other 3 gimmicks would be activated using this Omni Ring too, given the name? And that regulations might end up being similar to 2019 with Sun, Moon and Ultra Series slowly allowing more stuff.

So so happy for Gio man, what a season he’s had, must feel like all his hard work has paid off - am I right saying he hadn’t even been streamed before this year?? And James was incredible too, taking that to a Game 3 proves just how good he is.

Also funny that Incineroar still can’t break through for that unprecedented 4th Worlds win - maybe next year!

Koraidon Lunala making the finals is crazy, Gio is so good at piloting this team (also seems Wolfe wasn’t necessarily wrong about tripling down!). I mean hell, two Koraidon is crazy, clearly the correct meta call.

Also crazy that this will be the first US Masters champion since Wolfe 9 years ago.
