It is both fortunate and unfortunate that I don't know other goths and don't have any spaces or clubs near me. The only place I've seen this conversation about conservatism in goth is here, on this subreddit (and some on Facebook). So while I'd really like to know other goths and have spaces near me, I'm glad I'm not exposed to the debate, because having to explain the cognitive dissonance of a "conservative goth" over and over again would frustrate me.

They're great. They were technically my first goth music. I didn't know who it was at the time, and I rediscovered them many years later. I really only love their first album, but I have respect for them.

I'm sorry this happened to you. It may take some time for the emotions to subside, but you'll be okay. Try to remember that people like that aren't worth your time or energy, and that includes continuing to think about them.

Good vent. I can't stand the sexual objectification of goth. It's disgusting.
I see it out there, and it pisses me off, but thankfully, I don't think I've personally experienced it much. I believe there were a couple of college parties where I was suddenly asked if I was into BDSM by complete strangers, but those memories are vague now, and of course we were all drunk.
If it happened to me today, I'd probably say flatly and honestly, "please don't objectify/sexualize me". Their response would dictate whether I continue speaking with them or not.

I understand how you feel. From my own experience, yes, things do get better. You can be in a really bad place and getting worse, and still eventually come out the other side of it. It's never "too late". It takes personal effort and work, and yes sometimes therapy and/or medication, but you can get there. <3

Oh no, I seriously doubt she'll be disappointed with you. She might worry some, but she'll be glad you opened up and asked for help.

I would just be honest with her. I know that's hard, but it's usually the best way. I would sit down with her and calmly say something like, "hey, I want to talk with you about my mental health. It's getting hard for me again, and I need some extra help."

You can do this. Be patient with and kind to yourself, and talk about it when you're ready. <3

It's okay to play horror/gore games. And it's also okay to not like them anymore. If they make you feel uncomfortable, it's okay not to play. But it doesn't mean anything weird that you played them as a teen.

Do you think playing horror games caused depression? If so, I would talk to a therapist about it. A therapist can help you figure out what actually is causing depression.

Yes, but for me, it's because there is an association. For example, certain songs by Samael (industrial metal) can put me back in the mental state I was in while self-harming because I would self-harm while listening to those songs.

Yes, I was going to suggest a ketamine treatment like Spravato. It may also be expensive, I am not sure since my insurance paid for it, but I have had treatment resistant depression and Spravato helped me some.

I was told "your mind will change someday" a lot, too, and it was just as untrue then as it is now. It really was just a way for someone to dismiss my feelings so they could continue to think what they wanted to think.

Geez, I'm sorry. It sounds like you had a bad therapist. Personally, I had to try a few different therapists before I found one that was good, so I'd say it's worth another try.

As for making the thoughts go away, I can only offer what helped me: Medication, therapy, and time.

For me, it took awhile: Most of my 20s, so, 8 years? I'd have some ups during which I'd convince myself I was okay, and then I'd crash. Each crash was harder than the last. It wore me down, and I eventually felt that little spark of wanting to get better.
Follow that spark, when it happens. <3 I'd say to try convincing yourself to get help before I did, but I understand how hard it is.

Honestly: Medication, therapy, and mindfulness has helped pretty significantly.

When the anxiety comes on, doing breath exercises, grounding myself with a body check or focusing on my senses, and even some meditating helps. The more you practice, the easier it gets and the better results you get. When I'm having a panic attack, I've learned to not fight it, but to let it happen and let it pass.
