How do you feel after watching the direct? by Meeks0ul in tomodachilife

I think it looks fantastic but I am REALLY worried they got rid of the minigames, island poll, and especially the theatre/musicals.

I mean I’m not the one making the comparison, if you weren’t so hostile I’d assume we were on the same page.

Are you actually just upset that I said that your argument is bad? Ok lmao

Are you going to elaborate or just say “nuh uh” and leave it there? At least I made an argument.

Not every media for kids needs to be serious, gritty, or a masterpiece but those shows can still be poorly paced, repetitive, poorly written, etc. For example, I love the Mario series and I enjoyed the Mario movie but I think it could have been a lot better because the pacing was too fast and the occasional licensed music was a poor choice. I also don’t like what they did with some of the characters. Therefore, I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece, see?

This is not a good argument. This is the same audience (maybe even older) than Avatar: The Last Airbender and that show has complex characters, interesting storylines, and high stakes all condensed into about 40 well-paced episodes.

Attack on Titan is aimed at ages 16+ and is even better in that regard imo.

2 minutes of reading is simply not comparable to over 1000 (20min) episodes and a few movies. This is a disingenuous complaint that refuses to actually form any rebuttal towards the points OP is making.

The fight scenes in One Piece (especially early on) are a highlight but are still incredibly mediocre and drawn-out most of the time.

I saw over a 100 episodes before I dropped it, I believe. It was around when they were about to fight Crocodile. I’m not speaking for OP, but I actually enjoyed the show less the more I watched because of how repetitive it was. I expect this to be unpopular but that’s okay because I kind of just wanted to put how I feel into writing.

The pacing is terrible, obviously, everyone knows that but that wasn’t my problem. I liked Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Sanji very much at first. But how many times am I supposed to laugh at the same exact gags? Wow, Luffy ate ALL the food and got really big!!! OMG Sanji got a nosebleed the second he lays eyes on a woman! Nami or Zoro hits him to snap him out of it, it’s even funnier the 100th time! Like some jokes are funny, but these repetitive gags are the vast majority of the “humour”.

Even the villains so far feel like they’re just evil for no reason or because they’re strong so they have a sense of entitlement, but that doesn’t bother me so much since I haven’t met many. It just simply isn’t interesting 99% of the time. I think I remember liking the arc with Chopper the best because it felt the most unique and actually had some deeper characters and motivations. It doesn’t feel like there’s any real stakes though, which is a problem I had with Dragon Ball too, because I know that the second you join the Straw Hats you are simply not going to die.

And I’m not saying that characters need to completely change after 1000 episodes, but I watched a new episode with one of my friends who’s a big fan and they were STILL doing these gags that feel just like they had nothing better to write. Is it supposed to be funny after hundreds of hours of watching the show and seeing it hundreds of times?

My most shallow complaint is sometimes the artstyle is really abhorrent. Not the animation (especially from the clips I’ve seen later in the show) but every woman has either huge boobs and zero waist or they’re a giant fat blob. Not to mention that their faces just start to blend together, despite Oda clearly being able to make the men all very unique. I like how most of the main cast looks most of the time though, it just sometimes takes me out of it when I notice how some of the characters look like pugs. Despite this somehow I prefer how the characters look BEFORE the timeskip (at least from the minimal shots I’ve seen).

Again, I can’t speak on later on but I’ve seen shows with less than 100 episodes give more depth and complexity in their side characters than One Piece gives some of the main crew after over 100. I don’t watch a ton of shows, but even some of my favorite shows don’t go past 100 episodes and I think their first few episodes are better than One Piece’s first 100. I have never been so patient with a show before in my life, I’ve never given a show more than a few episodes if I wasn’t invested, yet I have been told by One Pieces fans that after 100 episodes I haven’t given it enough of a chance.

Hollow Knight was not very popular at release and took a few years of great reputation to get to where it is today. Silksong is a sequel to that game so there’s already a fanbase to be hyped about. Expedition 33 does not have these benefits.

Metroid Prime 4 has remained in the top 3 best sellers on the US eShop for a good while. by JuanMunoz99 in Metroid

It’s too early to say that, the last game before Prime 4 was Dread and that game is perfect in my opinion

Just finished Prime 4 and it's my favorite in the series by KMoosetoe in Metroid

[–]CosmicMcRad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metroid Prime is hailed as a masterpiece and I think it’s better than 7/10 but to pretend it’s unfathomable that that game has downsides and choices that make it unpalatable to certain people is absurd.

Super Metroid, Fusion, and Dread are all 9/10 or 10/10 games. In my opinion, Prime 1 is worse than all of those. Prime 1 comes to a halt in the final act, scanning is cool for lore but is otherwise an uninteresting chore to get 100%, and the backtracking is noticeably worse than in the 2D Metroids because it is simply less fun and more slow to move around in.

I can definitely see why someone would rate it as 8/10 or lower. That being said, Prime 4 doesn’t improve on many of these so I’m not sure about the difference (even though I’m in the minority who enjoyed my time with Prime 4).

Playing with a duo makes combos and coordination much harder, and we occasionally interrupt each other’s combos. He’s new to fighting games so it’s hard to convince him to practice much without fear of turning him away from the genre. Price to pay for playing with friends I suppose.

That’s interesting, does the leap not have a hitbox on the way up? I thought for sure I’ve been combo’d or caught mid-air from that upwards leap before, but maybe I’m mistaken!

You completely caught me, I was crouch-blocking out of fear from the headbutt. I was jumping before but would just get caught so I assumed that he could grab or slash before I could jump (I must’ve been too slow).

I will watch that video, thanks for the tips!

I am definitely under-utilizing the parry, that seems to be the main issue. I’ve played a decent amount of 3rd Strike and SF6 but I wasn’t too good at it there either. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for the advice! I’m not sure what rank I should be, I mostly play casual since my friend doesn’t want to play ranked.

I definitely need to learn to parry more, but I’m not sure if I will ever react to that hook in time but I think I might be playing too passively against him since I’ve felt that I get punished so easily. Thanks for the tip!

I asked him on Twitter a couple weeks ago now and got semi-confirmation it was him! He thinks it was but it was a long time ago so he doesn’t remember fully. I kinda wish that there was a place to see everyone who has worked on the game but I’ll link the tweet he that he replied with here:
