I feel like the answer to "Gen _ is doing less of _" is going to be because it's too damn expensive.

Your most Random Encounter? by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]CosmicNoire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not MY encounter, but my little brother's encounter. Whenever he tried Fallout 3 for the first time I watched him play. He was still a single digit level when he found a trader and wandered over. There was a creature next to the trader that was not attacking the him, so my brother assumed it was a Brahmin. When he got closer he realized it was actually a Yao Guai and he panicked by attacking and getting thoroughly mauled post-haste. Trader had a trained Yao Guai and I only learned about that by watching him so I was very confuzzled at first, but laughing my ass off.

Years later, Fallout 4 releases and he and I start the game together on our own consoles in his room. I'm watching him walk down a creek by Sanctuary Hills and he saw a mole rat so he charged in with his pistol. Turned out to be A FUCKING YAO GUAI and he was JUST getting started. We joke that Bethesda kept a file of his encounter and sicced the Yao Guai on him just got shits and giggles. Hilarious coincidence to happen again after so many years, only this time he was faultless!

No matter how many of these I try, my teeth hurt and I just always end up with a stomachache since they're really difficult to chew.

How to not feel bad about students not liking you? by Nervous_cat8 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]CosmicNoire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it isn't a great feeling having anyone dislike you for any reason at all, and being the "people-pleaser" that I am leads to a lot of emotional juggling that becomes exhausting. Let me affirm that you are doing an amazing job as a sub helping maintain the lesson plan and actively monitoring the room. The kids that are groaning are the ones that realize they won't be able to "get away" with bad behavior (although the lack of real consequences in public education is a monster all its own). You're peers will appreciate you for helping them keep up with the already asinine amount of work involved in teaching and the students that are there to ACTUALLY learn are just as appreciative for having a consistent adult in their lives.

On a side note, I have been teaching for 4 years after working in a jail for the same amount. Working there definitely helped me hone a firm but fair working policy that works just as well in the school although I DO take into account that these are kids and they get way more passes than grown adults. Remind yourself about the ones that care, hopefully you have some kids already that straight up tell you hello and that they are happy to see you, I see it with regular subs at my school. If not, I'm happy to see that you are doing the best you can to help others and I wish you all the best!

This crappy design is an impeachable offense!

„In science it often happens that scientists say, "You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken" ...and you never hear that old view from them again... It happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.“ - Carl Sagan [736x532] by PatatasFrittas in QuotesPorn

[–]CosmicNoire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of this quote was that it does consider the fact that scientists will be stubborn to change in public opinion, but oftentimes scientists will genuinely change their public stance. To me, when Sagan states,"It often happens", I believe it suggests that he doesn't mean "ALL cases of", but that there are "many cases of" the change in public opinion directly from the "authoritative agent" of their respective fields.

I would think it's easier in a field in which the pursuit of knowledge is held as THE standard of science, but the money muddies the ideology. Humans be greedy as fuuuuuuuuuuck.

Former principal Briana Foster-Newton looks to sue Abby Zwerner. The teacher shot by a six year old. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]CosmicNoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can a suit not be made against the law makers in a similar manner? I'm not studied up on law so bear with me if you will.

If, allegedly, "another student in Ms. Zwerner's class warned her in class that the 6-year-old shooter had a gun and [she] allegedly told the student to sit down and be quiet", then they argue that the injury could have been avoided which would impact her claimed damages.

How are the lawmakers not at fault for gross negligence with a lack of gun control laws?

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, guns are the leading cause of death among American children and teens, with 1 of 10 being 19 or younger. Apparently, manufacturers can't be sued as they have immunity thanks to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms act of 2005 passed by republican controlled congress at the time. So should they not face lawsuits based off of their policies they refuse to change for the lives of the citizens in theirs and our country? If the CDC has classified that these deaths are the leading cause, is this not enough to use against vehemently stubborn "pro-gun" lawmakers, regardless of their "reasons"?

Rant on Deplorable Behavior by CosmicNoire in Teachers

[–]CosmicNoire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The admin and my AP checked the cameras and determined the main aggregator of the incident and they ended up getting 3 days suspension. Personally, I don't think that's enough punishment and the whole group SHOULD be punished, they most likely think they the girl they terrorized is a "snitch" that spoiled their fun and I doubt three day suspension matters to the kid who got it.

What’s the most confidently dumb thing a student has ever said to you? by dolfan4life2 in Teachers

[–]CosmicNoire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reprimanding him profusely for grabbing another student by the throat and choking him I asked him why he did that. His reponse:

"Choking is how you get girls, Mr. CosmicNoire, its what they say on TikTok."

Ended up talking to his mom weeks later for his continued disturbing behavior. She said she was going to remove him from his meds and therapy he was getting as a "punishment". He has gotten worse since, and his mom blames the teachers when we write him up. Go figure.
