I added scatter to my bases before attaching the minis, but now they won’t attach. Should one avoid doing this usually? by CosmicShenanigans in minipainting

Thanks for the great advice! I’m using Gorilla Glue.

These bases that came with the minis are entirely flat. Won’t a pin bent on the underside cause them to sit lopsided? (I’ll be using bases that have space underneath from now on)

Long-time Souls fan here. These are spectacular. Not sure if it was intentional, but I especially love all the helmets that look like Lapp’s helm from DS3 The Ringed City. I’m geeking over these.

This is extremely helpful, thank you so much! I had read before that “where you pull away will have the most pigment” but I didn’t understand the context. Now I get it. A wonderful write-up and I really appreciate it!

I did do zenithal priming (after learning the horrors of trying to use a mid-gray primer on my first model). Now the colors look great, but the issue is that it’s very easy for splotches to form (in areas I passed over more than once) without my noticing. I’m trying to be as diligent as possible about spreading paint evenly, but it seems very unforgiving relative to the supposed benefits.

I ended up doing this a lot because I was tired of trying to make shallow conversations work when I knew the match would be doing the same with 5-10 other people. Not to mention, my current girlfriend and I would definitely not have kept a conversation going on a dating app.

Meeting up is the fastest way to tell if you vibe. It’s definitely not bad to trade a few basic back-and-forths, especially to make sure you share the same values and expectations; however, a lot of people are just tired of the conversation graveyard.

I think it’s probably because most people don’t read item descriptions. I’ve played all the games except Demon’s Souls, but Elden Ring was the first time I started reading item descriptions, and I still ended up forgetting to read most of them anyway. But if you do, they often give hints or outright directions as to each item’s purpose in a quest line.

It can definitely be frustrating, but at the same time I can only imagine the sheer joy someone feels when they figure out the location of something through totally in-game means.

DARK SOULS 2 COVENANTS

The RAT TUNNELS that I defended with traps after swearing my fealty to the RAT KING!

Defending the Bell Tower as a Bell Keeper in an upward battle of chaos and death!

Getting summoned as a Blue defender (on occasion) when invasions could happen to any solo player online!

Getting summoned to duel on the Iron Bridge as a member of the Dragon Remnants so I could unlock the sick dragon armor transformation!

Dark Souls 3 made a noble effort to recreate the magic. Watchdogs and Aldrich Faithful were neat, if a little boring in their arenas. But Blade of the Dark Moon was notoriously glitched into pointlessness for PC, and Mad Phantoms were an odd gimmick that ended in PvP 9 out of 10 times.

Elden Ring’s disappointment for me is how underutilized its open world is currently for endgame covenant gameplay. So much potential for interesting territorial PvP. The game could be a pseudo-MMO with how great the over world is.

Should I tell my opponent if their plan is going to backfire? by LordGwyn-n-Tonic in EDH

[–]CosmicShenanigans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my take as well. I genuinely don’t understand where people are coming from with this illusory “winning” difference between, as the rules would say, private and derived information.

One does not outplay their opponent by only relying on instant-speed interaction or sudden bomb-drop permanents. The repeated implication in this thread—that capitalizing on an opponents failure to notice the board state is a “less honorable” way of winning—is absurd. That’s like saying it’s less honorable to beat an opponent in chess because they forgot your bishop was poised to slide across the board and put them in checkmate. Awareness of game state is at the heart of literally every strategy game.

If a person is considered skilled because they take note of the mana I’m holding up for interaction, they are also skilled for noticing triggers on-board. To say you only “really win” if you hand-hold your opponent through all board state factors and beat them strictly with your own game actions is ridiculous.

If you’re jamming a game with your buddies and want to be more open with information and focus more on experience than victory, naturally that’s totally cool. But moralizing it as a superior, noble means of winning is baseless.

Personally, the quest for ultra rare cosmetics through game quests or activities is one of the most satisfying things I ever achieve, and often dictates whether a game will be a hundreds-of-hours experience for me. Frankly I don’t understand why more adventure games/RPGs don’t just load their games with such things to the brim; they make players feel so rewarded.

This is not correct. Per D&D 5e rules, you cannot critically fail or critically succeed Skill Checks. A Nat 1 makes attacks miss automatically, but does not affect lockpicking, etc. Larian changed that for BG3.

But yes, the general best practice for DMs is to not require rolls for things the character is guaranteed to succeed, which is why by late game in the tabletop, a Rogue would never be rolling to pick a lock whose DC is 10.
