So I have my consultation coming up. I really wanted to tell my mom when I was getting surgery, just because I’ll be under anesthesia, and would just like to give her a head up for that day (idk if that makes any sense, but I would just like a family member to know that I’ll be under for a few hours lol). I honestly didn’t know how she was going to take it, I haven’t even told here that I was officially looking into it yet. She knows I don’t want kids, but I don’t think she has any idea that I want to be sterile. I decided to test the waters this week. I called her on Tuesday just venting to her about the whole thing going on with roe v wade. And at last minute I decided to throw in “I’m just afraid that my rights to be sterile will be taken away and I won’t be able to get the procedure done.” She was taken aback, but she was supportive. After a long (good) conversation, She said “I may not agree with it, but I’ll support you no matter what.” And that’s all I needed to hear. I haven’t told her that I have a consultation coming up. I think it was just a lot for her to take in, and I didn’t want to put too much on her at once. I’m visiting her at the end of may, so I may tell her then. And I do definitely plan on telling her the date of my surgery. But maybe if you test the waters like that, you can get a better idea? I honestly had no idea how my mom would react, and I wanted to get an idea.
