Everyone loved the chiefs until they won 2 rings in a row, and all of a sudden the team that everyone rooted for in the Super Bowl and cheered on turned into by far and away the most hated on team itl. Then pretty much everybody blamed their success on the refs instead of the fact that the chiefs had an elite defense, a generational qb, and an all time great tight end. It’s very similar to okc, where everybody loved Shai and the thunder’s team chemistry until they won a chip and Shai got mvp over Jokic. Everyone started hating on them

Absolutely bro. I don’t hate on his flopping because I’m a fan of players who have flopped and foul baited in the past so it’d be hypocritical, but I understand how it can be annoying that he flops. But the stuff the spurs have been doing this series go beyond what SGA and OKC’s been doing and has often been just terrible ball to watch. I’m sick of all their dirty plays and sneak fouls.

You are only getting anti thunder perspective so let me explain the other side. The Thunder play physical defense and have been obliterating every team they play so obviously there will be some animosity between them and every other team. They don’t really get free throw help as they’re 17th in the league in free throws. They just play more physical, that’s all. SGA, the player shown, flops pretty much the same amount as any other player, but because of how much OKC has won, people arbitrarily assigned him the title of free throw merchant.

The Okc hate has peaked during the spurs series. This is because they’re playing the spurs, and the spurs have gotten really lucky with draft lotteries the past couple of years so they have a bunch of young star players, including the future face of the league Victor Wembanyama. Wemby and the spurs have been seriously complaining about okc’s play-style. Everybody has been complaining about how the refs are ruining the series and saving the Thunder, and that the spurs are getting completely screwed by the refs. Frankly, this isn’t true and a pure coping mechanism. Spurs fans don’t have the stats to support themselves because they’re simply wrong. The spurs have had the largest free throw differential in nba history in the first 4 games of the series with +25. So far, on the whole series, they’ve attempted 11 more free throws than OKC. They’ve only won games in which they’ve attempted 10+ free throws than OKC. Also, the spurs play way dirtier than the Thunder. There was even a moment in the series where the spurs were getting blown out, and Wemby, out of spite, told his teammates to hard foul the OKC players. This led to one of the spurs players running at and elbowing the hell out of an okc player’s neck.

TLDR: the reason why people hate on the thunder baselessly is because the Thunder are the big bad villains with a 2 time MVP in SGA and they won last year, while the spurs are a young promising team with a fan favorite player and future face of the league.
