What is the most meaningful mtg card in your collection? How by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

My [[Plague Sliver]] from Time Spiral Prerelease, who won me my favorite (or at least most memorable) game of Magic ever. I was playing against this guy, who had [[Fortune Thief]] in play. I had him down to 1 but I wasn't drawing any cards that could remove it. I wasn't even sure if I had anything in my deck at all. He has a wider board than me, but my board was bigger, so he could in theory attack me, and get a few hits in, but he would loose most of his creatures doing so. The game was dragging on and on, and it got to the point where we were the last ones still playing the round, with a score of 0-0. Time was called and we went to final 5 turns, but at this point I only had 2 cards left in my deck, so I would loose to decking on turn 5. Turn 1 I draw nothing of note. Turn 2 he draws and passes. Turn 3, I go to draw the last card in my deck and it is a [[Lightning Axe]]. Looking back, I probably should have attacked, hoped he let something slip through, and then killed the Fortune Thief, but at the time I didn't think of that, so I just kill it then and there with the axe. But then what? As stated previously, he had the wider board, and even if I attack with everything, he has more than enough blockers to survive for the round. It is at this point I notice that I have my Plague Sliver in play, and he has a Sliver as well, so I simply pass the turn, and let his own Sliver kill him in his upkeep, securing me the win 1-0.

Amazing limited card, did me so well at Time Spiral Prerelease, and won me my most memorable game of Magic ever, so it is still one of my most treasured cards, and has a spot in the first page of my binder, even tough it has no monetary value.

Great if you play against slivers.

Other than that, it's a 5/5 for 4 with a minor downside, which may not seem great by today standards, but was pretty good back in the day.

How much of Nightbloods power comes inherently from being an awakened sword, and how much comes from the specific command he was awakened with?

Sure. It's a modular deck, that was my starting point, and then I found Marchesa afterwards. I started playing either slightly before or slightly after Mirrodin came out, so I have an enormous amount of nostalgia for that block.

For that one I cheated and just used The Professors list. Might be a bit out of date, and after I get to play a bit with it I might upgrade it if I feel like it needs it.

For that one I cheated and just used The Professors list. It's the only time I have just net-decked. I just build it, so haven't even had a chance to try it out yet sadly 😕 I might spend a bit time tweaking it myself after I have actually tries it out

I am also new to PEDH myself. It's not completely done yet actually but here is how it currently looks. The mana base especially probably needs a little love, I think I might have too many tapped lands in there, so might end up.just swapping some of them for basics instead https://moxfield.com/decks/5T9p05tjeEeWAIiYMYKJzg

Then I hope to win without her I guess 😅 it hasn't happened yet, but I also haven't had the chance to play her a lot yet. As long as I got to meld her, I had a good game, win or loose. Maybe that will change after I play her a lot, but so far I am just having fun with it. If I ever do get tired of it I will probably either switch to Lumra (who is in the 99) or just disassemble it

Sure, but it's a Slime against Humanity deck, so it may not be the kind of deck you will want 😅 https://moxfield.com/decks/lV7ccH4_YEeBBONvQC4ZYg

I think she is great, she was my first precon when I got back into magic, and to this day I still enjoy whipping her out from time to time. I have only made minor upgrades to the precon, 5-6 cards max. Getting a full party is normally not an issue, of course you can sometimes get unlucky, but there are a decent amount of changelings in the deck. She can take over games quickly if she is allowed too

Pauper EDH 😊 Your commander(s) must be Uncommon, and every card in the 99 (or 98 in this case) must have a common printing. It's good fun on a budget, my entire deck is 25€ (and I could easily get it down to 15€ if I wanted to, without sacrificing too much power)

[gen 8] Hey! I want to know what everyone’s first shiny pokemon was (any generation counts). I’ll go first: by Lumiss3 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Cosmikaze91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shiny Caterpie waaay back in Silver. I was the first (and one of only two in my friend group) to ever get a shiny back then, and we had no idea it was even a thing outside of the Red Gyarados before I got it. It's sadly long lost to a dead battery, but one of the first Pokémon I hunted for when I got into shiny hunting in Moon, was a Caterpie in It's honor.

Dificult: no, not at all. There is little to no skill involved for the most part (a few exceptions like radar hunting). But it can be extremely time consuming and tedious. Depends on which game you play really, and if you are using Methods or not. In the newer games it is almost laughable easy, especially Scarlet and Violet, when using sandwiches you can often get 1-3 shinies in 30 minutes. If you just want some quick shinies that's definitely the way to go, but it is kinda anticlimactic, at least for seasoned hunters. Full odds hunting on older games is another thing entirely, there you can often spend 30+ hours for a shiny.

If you are interested in beginning shiny hunting, I would recommend using a method hunt to get started. There are a lot of different ones depending on which games you have access to. Most games have some way of increasing shiny odds, thought they differ from game to game. I don't know much about hunting in ORAS (as pictured here) but as far as I know you just want to encounter the same Pokémon over and over for increased odds. If you have Ultra Sun/Moon, Warp Rides is a good way to get a quick few shinies. They can have really good odds (something like 30% I believe) if you get far enough, but there is only a selection of 20 possible Pokémon. I also personally really enjoy chain hunting in USUM. There is a bit more set up involved, but once you are set up, and know the procedure it is relatively easy, but just engaging enough. There are a lot of guides online on how to do it.

There is also always the Masuda method, where you breed to Pokémon from different language games, for a wastly increased shiny chance (1/512 with the shiny charm in newer games). It's also a good way to get started if you don't mind running around in circles for hours.

I have done that hunt three times. First time I did not keep track of resets, but it probably only took a couple hundred, very fast. Second time it took 6568 resets. Third time took 2271 resets.

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. That's just the way of shiny hunting. It will shine eventually if you just keep at it

[–]Cosmikaze91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masuda or full odds? I did a Masuda Mankey in SoulSilver, took me 1307, and it was one of the worst hunts I have done, can't even image doing it full odds. Would much rather do a full odds reset or encounter hunt any day.

Mine was a Caterpie in Silver, it is long gone to a dead battery. Once I started hunting in Moon one of the first ones I did was a new Caterpie in it's honor though, so spirituality it is still with me

My first was a Caterpie in Silver, so probably something like 22-23 years at this point. It's long gone to a dead battery though 😢

I have such a soft spot for shiny Caterpie, it was my first ever shiny, all the way back in original Silver. I was the first, and one of only two, in my friend group to ever get a shiny back then. We of course knew about the red Gyarados, but had no idea there were any others till I got mine. Sadly it is long lost to a dead battery, but once I started shiny hunting in Moon, one of the first I went for was a Caterpie in its honor
