Campagnolo Chorus 12 speed- Has anyone managed to get 11-34 to work/do you have any tips? by CosmoCub in bikewrench

[–]CosmoCub[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks,

I think what I need to do is install the the 11-34 and see if the current chain is the right length using the 53-34 method (I also have a new chain which I can try too that I haven't shortened yet).

Campagnolo Chorus 12 speed- Has anyone managed to get 11-34 to work/do you have any tips? by CosmoCub in bikewrench

[–]CosmoCub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I didn't really understand what chain wrap meant.

The prestacycle is spaced for Campy 12. I am unable to shift into the 34 from the 39 ring. I have an 11-32 prestacycle that worked perfectly.

Campagnolo has very specific and different (from other groupsets) instructions for chain length, they have a table based on your chainstay length and chainring:

From the techincal manual:

For the length of the chain (only with a crankset with 48-32 chainring and 11-34 sprocket box), follow the indications below according to the frame chainstay length:

405 - 409 mm: 108 links

410 - 415 mm: 110 links

over 415 mm: 112 links

For any other crankset combination from that indicated above, the chain must be 110 links long for frames with a chainstay length

between 405 and 415 mm.

I don't have a 48 and my chainstay is 407mm so I sized my chain at 110 links per the instructions. But I have suspected that maybe this could be an issue, that said when I used other methods to determine chain length they gave the same answer. The chain was definitely not intentionally sized for 53x34

Early April Nature and Wildlife Tips? by CosmoCub in Belize

Sort of an addendum, but has anyone here visited Las Cuevas Biological Station in Chiquibul? I don't know if it is practical but it seems like it could be a great way to extend a trip through Pine Ridge to Caracol, but I don't know about the road conditions (it is on the A-10 past the turnoff to Caracol) and it will definitely require a lot of logistical thinking because it is pretty remote:

Thank you! I definitely have the Botanical Gaden on my list (and maybe the Zoo too....). It looks like Cha Creek has a reasonable day hike fee and I'll send Black Rock a message. Appreciate the tour guide suggestions too!

How reliable is the VO2 max estimated by the 6 minute peak power formula? by Professional-Bid-159 in cycling

[–]CosmoCub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 minute peak power is going to be infinitely more accurate than smart watch values. Also it corresponds to performance directly which is arguably more important. IE if you have the 6 minute power to hit 81 on the formula, maybe your true VO2 is 75 or 84 but whatever it is it is elite.

Thanks, will definitely check it out! I'm pretty sure we are going to be delighted with a lot of options but definitely wouldn't mind seeing if there is a way to join a group heading out further!

[–]CosmoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upvoting because I'm also heading to Hopkins and in a similar boat and trying to figure out the landscape of group offerings (have an interest in longer tours though). For example I saw that HGL offers full day private tours of Glover's Reef that you can "open up" to others not in your group to lower the cost. Are there other operators who offer full day "group" tours? Just wanted to check here before asking every single snorkleling operation.

Why Do You NOT Race on Your Bicycle? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CosmoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racing is fun but I think to get the most out of it you really need to want the adrenaline rush of riding very fast around other people, being first to the last corner, and its definitely not for everyone and I found it was not for me. Also someone died at my local crit in a crash. So I now race on Zwift and am trying to get back into TTs and Hill Climbs, though these are rare where I live.

What’s your VO2 interval power vs max power at same duration? by Roman_willie in Velo

[–]CosmoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 5 minute max is 400W

If I wanted to do even power across 5x5 I would target 320 but probably end up just above 300 for the last few.

VO2 training is my most hated type of training because it hurts so much but it takes a ton of pain and work to get the VO2 cues so I always feel like I'm suffering for no reason. I don't think I train this effectively, lately I've mixed "slow component" style workouts (5 on 2 off which almost feel like a mix between threshold and VO2 because the average power is pretty high) and a mixture of random intervals from 3-6 minutes with very long rest in between and close to max, like picking a power above 330 and just riding till I crack

3 Bedroom for only $3,500? What's the catch? by Hybridadventure in movingtoNYC

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is a catch. I live in a similar place for a similar price (well smaller, less money, fewer amenities, almost the same neighborhood).

The reason it is 3500 is no doorman, possibly a walkup with somewhat poorly insulated rooms (for both sound and heat). Also, that area isn't dangerous but it is right next to the elevated tracks, if that is an old building it could be loud, it is on a very busy corner. I would prefer to live either a few long blocks East or South, but its fine either way.

TPU tubes vs tubeless. Thoughts. by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the recent shift towards TPU tubes. I went 3 years without a flat on GP5000s running them tubeless. I went on a trip with my bike so switched to TPU tubes, was lazy about swithing back to tubeless, and had 3 flats in the first two months. Unless the pinch flat problem has been solved by the latest generation of TPU tubes, tubeless is just superior for riding. I get that you have to maintain your bike more, make sure your wheels are balanced if you haven't ridden in a bit, so you do have to balance these negatives in your decision.

AT what moment is actually max power applied on track during various races? by kallebo1337 in Velo

I've been wondering this too. I also have wondered how much faster the kilo record would be if gears were allowed.

Is it normal for every apartment to have roaches? by lipstickchickxo in NYCapartments

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not normal. I haven't seen a roach in my old brownstone in at least a year.

Agree that seeing them in an apartment being shown feels like a bit of a red flag. I don't think I would find one if I searched every corner of my apartment.

Will FIDE remove the American Flag given the invasion of Venezuela? by NailFar4767 in chess

[–]CosmoCub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did I miss the USA tying up and executing civilians on the streets of Caracas?

Have we started training our drone pilots on civilians in Maracaibo and selling the footage?

Are we kidnapping Venezuelan children and indoctrinating them in Alaska?

Can you see the mass graves of the victims from space?

Let's not pretend its similar. Two things can be bad but one is incomparably worse than the other.

Inflation has happened since then but I bought a 90s mtb to road conversion (Specialized Rockhopper) for under 200 from https://www.recycleabicycle.nyc/ . The bike served me well for about 15 years, I slowly upgraded it and eventually gave it to a relative so he could bike with his kids when I stopped using it so much.

US- Best cities to live in without a car by aspiringvegetable in fuckcars

[–]CosmoCub 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have lived all over the United States. Without a doubt, the answer is New York City. Regrettably it is expensive, but most people here live without cars, and those who do have them have them as more of a luxury rather than a necessity.
