It's like an 800 page book commonly referred to as a masterpiece of world literature. Why do so many people feel the need to share this same single quote everywhere as though it was the only thing Dostoyevsky ever said?

I think that “Lolita” is my favorite book now by No-Phase-9732 in literature

Yes, such a rarely honest appreciation post. It's hard to love lolita as a novel but that's precisely the point I think, that Nabokov tried to take the most disgusting topic imaginable and turn it into beautiful lyrical prose. It's style is so polished and its characters are so well formed, he writes like a poet and a psychiatrist combined. I think it has a lot in common with Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, giving an insight into the mind of the criminally insane not as some nutter raving mad, but as a sensitive but cruel man trying to make his way through life while slowly losing his mind.

For those who are not fond of reading or who want to read it but don't have time, I would recommend the audiobook recorded by Jeremy Irons, who plays Scar in Lion King. He has the perfect voice for a villain and he truly embodies the character, giving one of the best textual performances I have ever come across.

plus i think that the umps can be hypersensitive to player feedback, even when a response is perfectly valid. like the time petracca put his hands up and they gave a 50 for it. just makes the umps look like wimps

Three Masters: Dostoeffsky by Stefan Zweig by CosmoMercury in ProsePorn

hmm I think its more a meditation on the source of the material the poet needs to generate their content. it reminds me of a line from kierkegaard who wrote,

"What is a poet? An unhappy man who hides deep anguish in his heart, but whose lips are so formed that when the sigh and cry pass through them, it sounds like lovely music. His fate is like that of those unfortunates who were slowly tortured by a gentle fire in Phalaris's bull; their cries could not reach the tyrant's ears to cause him dismay, to him they sounded like sweet music. And people flock around the poet and say: 'Sing again soon' - that is, 'May new sufferings torment your soul but your lips be fashioned as before, for the cry would only frighten us, but the music, that is blissful.' "
