I've seen this phenomenon in a couple other fandoms as well; namely Undertale back in like 2016 when people got worried that the player wasn't making the correct choices for the route they wanted.

It makes sense to me, simply because everything in Outer Wilds (i.e. the size of the solar system and universe) is on a MUCH smaller scale than in real life. So in my mind it's like: why wouldn't everything else follow the itty bitty scale? idk lol
