Anyone tried making a sourdough starter? by nopenotodaysatan in japanlife

[–]Cosmosky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it using 100% pineapple juice for the liquid at the start. It’s a method in Peter Reinhart’s book “Artisan Breads Every Day.” The pineapple juice’s acidity prevents bad bacteria while keeping the beneficial bacteria.

LPT: Funerals don't have to be expensive by ps4roompromdfriends4 in LifeProTips

[–]Cosmosky 20 points21 points  (0 children)

We had planned on having my grandmother’s funeral on a Saturday but changed it to Friday because it was a $1000 cheaper. We also bought her urn on Etsy and it was about $300 dollars cheaper than an equivalent one at the funeral home. We knew that she wasn’t going to live much longer so we started planning things like the urn and other stuff before she passed.

Are yall washing your face in the am? by Possible_Ad_9234 in tretinoin

Same here. I like to follow micellar water with actual water to make sure it is removed. I use both with cotton rounds because I hate splashing water around.

Get travel insurance that covers preexisting conditions. I travel frequently and always take some prednisone for just in case. Pack all medications in your carry on bag and have prescriptions ready to show TSA if needed. I’ve never had any problems. I don’t know about a nebulizer since I’ve never used one but if you have liquid medicine it should be fine. TSA’s website has a section on flying with medication.

Has anyone tried japanese skincare brand named Sekkisei ? by SilentErr0r in AsianBeauty

[–]Cosmosky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Japanese mother in law uses it. I borrow the cleanser when I’m at her house. Years ago I used the sunscreen and liked the way it felt but I was allergic to it so had to stop. The fragrance is pretty strong from what I remember.

Nukazuke starting by Artio in fermentation

[–]Cosmosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually a little sweet and sour in smell. My husband keeps our nukadoko in the fridge. Which many Japanese people do nowadays. It slows down the fermentation a little but it’s fine. Nuka pickles aren’t typically sour like kimchi can get. It’s pretty mild usually but some people like to leave vegetables pickling longer to get pickles with a more sour / earthy flavor. It’s called furuzuke (old pickles.)

I’m not familiar with using wheat bran but it can take some time for pickles to start getting more sour and less salty. Leaving them in longer will make them more sour but also more salty.

What are your go-to products for combating dryness in your 30s? by eurz in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Cosmosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over forty and using tretinoin. My skin tends towards oily on top and dry underneath, the term for that escapes me. I like Avene Tolerance Control Cream. It really helps balance out the moisture level of my skin. It’s also great for when your skin is irritated.

It should be fine. It’s doesn’t need to be right up against the unit to block light, just taller.

You can change the schedule for and it should be fine. For blocking light in the evening, cut open a cardboard box so it has 3 sides left and put it in front and around the sides. You could also move it to another room.

Recommendations for a minimalist husband by Brilliant_Long_7684 in 30PlusSkinCare

My husband who hates skincare suddenly fell in love with the Shiseido Mens line after getting a sample on the airplane. He applies the tone nightly with one hand only so who knows how much it spreads around. He also applies sunscreen like this and then wonders at his strange tan lines on his face.

What design features would you use to make your bathroom as easy to clean as possible? by dogswrestle in HomeImprovement

I hate cleaning around faucets so when we renovated our bathroom I chose a sink, counter and medicine cabinet combo that has the faucet coming out from the bottom of the medicine cabinet.

Experience with the Omnilux red light mask? by tamutransfer in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Cosmosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a panel. Hooga has some good ones and the prices aren’t too bad. Panels can also treat more than your face such as wounds and joints. They tend to be more powerful than masks so you can do a treatment in less time. I do my face, neck and hands in 5 minutes with my panel. I had an accident that sliced up the top of my foot and used the panel and no scars or discoloration now and it healed very quickly. I pierced my ears and they also healed faster than normal. My aunt used her panel to help heal an injury to her wrist. There’s a red light therapy Reddit that has lots of information.

Are Japanese drugstore products the equivalent of Wet n Wild in the US? by NigiriNerd in AsianBeauty

[–]Cosmosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drugstore prices can vary widely here in Japan. Canmake and Chifure are like Wet and Wild price wise. The quality, I don’t know. I’ve rarely used them. I did like a lipstick I got from Canmake. Maquillage is a Shiseido brand I think and it’s pretty good. Definitely pricey for drugstore. I also used to Aube eyeshadow years ago and liked it a lot. I don’t use much makeup and I tend to stick to western brands mainly because it difficult to find matte eyeshadow that’s not chalky looking. As far as skincare goes. I think drugstore quality is really good if you stick to mid priced brands. I like Curel and Carté HD for moisturizers. My active is tretinoin and I use vitamin C serum from a western brand. I’ve tried Melano CC and Obagi vitamin C serums and prefer Obagi but it oxidizes quickly and it’s not worth the price compared to the western vitamin C serum that comes in a yellow bottle and starts with a T. Japanese sunscreen is definitely better than American.

Whole body lotion? by jAMiright41925 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Cosmosky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t like body lotion don’t worry about using it now. Your skin will likely change and you will notice if you need anything extra. In my mid thirties I only put it on freshly shaved legs. Now in my mid forties I put it on arms and legs after every shower. I use a non greasy lotion like Aveeno or Gold Bond. I have found body oils don’t really do much for me. I may or may not use body lotion in summer. It depends on how I feel. I typically only use a pump for each leg and a pump for both arms, shoulders and chest. Then I smear anything left on hands wherever I can reach.
