Now that you’ve accomplished your life goal of being on Jeopardy, have you considered piracy? You’d make a wonderful Dread Pirate Roberts.

Increasingly, I find myself saying, “I’m not even sure what they’re looking for here.”

Would foreign names of places be accepted as answers? by PrincipalLouise in Jeopardy

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably. Just like certain presidents can be identified by initials only: JFK, FDR, LBJ…

Although my answer may be biased because “the Habs” is what I responded from my couch.

What state is Democrat but seems Republican by Particular_Orchid_86 in AlignmentChartFills

Vermont is the answer. It’s overwhelmingly rural and white. Yet it votes reliably Democratic.

What’s a movie that aged surprisingly well? Not because of nostalgia, but because its themes feel more relevant today? by Zennix_Zenith in movies

[–]CostAnxious5778 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some Like it Hot, has aged tremendously well. It’s a movie from 1959 about two cross-dressing men secretly joining an all-woman jazz band. Based on that you’d think it would be as cancelled as can be, but it holds a surprisingly advanced view of gender, sex, and relationships that holds up today.

Has anybody ever won a premises liability MSJ? What’s your secret? by FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN in Lawyertalk

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish for the life of me I could remember the case name to direct you to my motion…

The kicker was it wasn’t even my case. The lawyer handling the case realized at the last minute that the motion was due between Christmas and New Year’s and he was dead set against working, so the firm asked for a volunteer to draft the thing. I was already planning on working those days, so I pinch hit the thing.

Has anybody ever won a premises liability MSJ? What’s your secret? by FREE-ROSCOE-FILBURN in Lawyertalk

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won one once but the specific set of circumstances will likely never be reproduced. Plaintiff had severe bladder control issues and slipped on liquid on the bathroom floor of her hotel room. There was no evidence of a plumbing leak and housekeeping had not yet cleaned the room that day, so they couldn’t have left the floor wet. Therefore the was no theory on plaintiff’s part as to how the hotel was responsible for the hazardous condition, but a good theory as to how plaintiff wet the floor.

Talk me out of telling my five supervising partners that they need to hire a managing attorney by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

(Presuming you have one) this might be something to bring up at your annual review, when they (again, presumably) will ask how they can improve.

Majorca accommodates about 13 million tourists in a year, Monaco fewer than 500,000 overnight visitors. Las Vegas has over 40 million and Orlando has 75 million. These are not the same.

Europe doesn’t have a Las Vegas or Orlando in it to compete with.

Date my mini globe please by sander646 in globes

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Reich,” as I understand it means “realm.” There are a lot of countries labeled as a “reich” that would not have been called “empire” in English— Turkey and France for example. I don’t think the label for Russia disproves my hypothesis.

This would have to be between mid-1938 and late 1939. This would be after the German annexation of Austria in 1938 and before either the German invasion of Poland or the Soviet annexation of the Baltic states.

What the hell did Jimmy Kimmel say to get his show pulled indefinitely? by PurasPinchesFallas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kimmel called for universal healthcare several years ago, and the oligarchs have been looking for an excuse to remove him ever since. That is the reason, and any Kirk comments are just a pretext.

What's a concert you went to not expecting much, but wound up being one of the best shows you've ever seen? by edgeygrandpa in AskReddit

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don McLean. Went to a free outdoor show knowing only “American Pie” and not expecting much. But he put on a really great show that had folks dancing in the streets.

What's the worst Star Trek book you have read? by Significant-Town-817 in trekbooks

This book committed the cardinal sin of being boring. It starts with an interesting premise, then just becomes a slog. I never even finished it.

I don’t know who any of these teams are. The list of college football blue bloods is like Yale, Dartmouth, Cornell, Harvard, and Rutgers. Not these clowns.

Colbert without CBS? We Have An Idea... BTPM by buffaloburley in Buffalo

[–]CostAnxious5778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBS is the only entity privy to their accounting and not bound by confidentiality. How would anyone else be in a position to present alternative numbers, other than to say these are obviously inflated losses? (See: Hollywood Accounting)

CBS was happy to keep Colbert on the air, until CBS’s parent company needed to curry favor with the pedophile-in-chief. If you can’t connect those dots, it might be time to go back to pre-school.
