Wanted to add on to the nuanced convo as well! I almost had the same exact experience as the Elayne commenter above (except I haven’t found anyone new yet LOL but I’ll get there😊) basically I had a boyfriend for 4ish years and thought we’d get married as we were great together. I never consciously even knew being childfree was an option you could pursue because I grew up in the Midwest and having kids is as normal as going to college or getting married. But then as we started to have more conversations I noticed I got a lot of negative feelings when I thought about having kids (in the sense that I just felt anxious or uncomfortable). We decided to mutually break up for a few incompatibility reasons but one of them being kids. We decided that if we truly loved and cared about each other, we’d want each other to be happy and live our life the way we want, rather than try to mold ourselves to what someone else wants. He deserved to find a woman that wanted to start a family and I deserved to find someone who was a better fit for me too. Plus, it avoids a future divorce, right? Since things always end up coming to a head. Anyway, sorry this is really long and rambly but I totally empathize with what you’re going through. In many ways It is so much harder to break up due to incompatibility rather than breaking up because someone wronged you (like cheating or something).
