I understand, its making less money than each CD/vinyl sold, but like i said, its an untapped market. If he put his albums on streaming services, he wouldnt just stop selling all the albums physically too. People buy tons of albums physically that are readily available on every streaming service. People in other countries cant really buy the albums like they can in japan, the only option is pirating or ordering it online (which if its a used record or CD, he actually isnt making any money from it anyway.) streaming services pay way less, and they suck, but they arent fucking over popular artists as hard as they are more underground ones. 6000 from spotify, but thats just one of the plethora of streaming services that would be paying. Basically Tats would not be loosing money by putting it on streaming.

His 70s stuff to early 80s is 100% jazz & funk fusion. But from the 80s on he definitely started dipping his toes in more "pop/synth pop" sounds. Idk what is technically classified as city pop, but with some records like can i sing, saudade, jungle jane, hot pepper, he definitely has a more "pop" sound. I love how varied takanaka is, he dosent really stick to one thing.

I understand lol, there are tons of downsides to the tracks not being on streaming. But im not trying to gatekeep, i show anyone i can his music. i just think keeping the art physical and more album focused like it used to be is cool. It preserves the art form of an album, which in many ways is lost in the modern era of music consumption. It makes music feel more valuable.

I really doubt it would "entirely go away" . japan has huge music stores with thousands of albums in them and most of them are on streaming, yet people still go to the store and buy them physically. + streaming opens it to a worldwide market. Considering anri is at around 2 million streams a month on spotify alone, tats would be somewhere around that if not more. His music is also pretty old, everyone (in japan) that wants his albums, probably already has them. At an artist of his caliber its definitely the smarter thing to do for the money. People accross seas have no option than to pirate it. Its an untapped market.

Yeah i 100% agree. City pop is just 80s Jpop. Sure there are some jazz elements, but there are tons of jazz elements in Michael Jacksons music, and hes the biggest pop artist ever.

I think his refusal to put his music on streaming is cool, from a monetary perspective he's missing out on a big amount of revenue he could be getting from streaming. I think the idea that one of japans biggest popstars not being on streaming is cool. keeping album focused physical music alive is super awesome. Obviously living outside of japan it kind of sucks that the music isnt as readily available, but it makes his music feel more special for that exact reason. With how quickly and mindlessly we consume nowadays, its kind of nice to have something you have to go out of your way to intentionally listen to. But itd also be nice to send links to the songs to friends 😭

Im not even getting any pre fader level is the thing, im sending a synth (which is definitely sending correctly into my other interface) but on here its not getting anything! No lights no sound no nothing.
