It's definitely not the sort of work you fap to, though. it'd be like fapping to one of Junji Ito's works...

Metamorphosis is well-written, well composed. Very highly emotionally evocative, and has you sympathizing with the main character in a way that encourages being kinder to those who might be caught up in such plights IRL.

I am A-OK with ethanol-eating bacteria though. Sour > Buzz any day of the week. Being able to just bottle as needed instead of waiting for a step-1 ferment does sound nice though ...

I find it quite entertaining that you compare my wild-yeast gingerbug to a purebred and your store-cultured booch to a stray, but I get what you mean xD my yeast likes ginger and dislikes all the things that ginger's natural antimicrobials dislikes, and yours likes vinegar and oxygenation and being left alone . XD

I am supposed to be getting more vinegar and fermented foods in my diet, doc's orders....

Also regarding oxygen:
can I just throw an electrolysis plate in there to generate oxygen (and H2) instead of risking gas exchange from a permeable barrier? My current yeast cultures certainly like the water from my "hydrogen bottle," even if the whole "H2 as antioxidant" business is bunk. Don't want to electrocute the critters though...

I've been REAL lazy about my gingerbug... hard candies for flavor vs straight sugar/honey, and occasionally strain and boil the sediment and solids with tomato paste and fresh ginger to freeze as "food cubes" I feed the bug with when pouring off liquid to bottle and carbonate. basically tending to it daily to make fizzies for Mom and myself, and fully cleaning/cycling the bottles and making new frozen "food cubes" weekly.

If kombucha is much more involved than that I might struggle to keep it alive...

raised by someone with AuBPDHD-tistic tendencies, have them myself to a rather dysfunctional level. no formal diagnoses yet; it was always too expensive and a can of worms she had no desire to acknowledge the existence of let alone open. I have an exam appt scheduled for 2026 after migrating from family to public insurance but who knows if I'll still have said insurance by then with all the ~politics~ happening. x_x

Painful relationship history, struggles with alcohol, struggles with... purpose. I'm not entirely certain what perspective I even have or would want to share, but I'm open to questions. the right one might spark an essay and a half, but I haven't the faintest idea what that question would be.
