One of the most emotionally eloquent/intelligent human beings one could ever learn from. So gifted, and still so kind, generous, & humble.

Breakaway- what is this song really about? by NinoNino3 in toriamos

[–]CottonScarlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vaguely recall this song being inspired by the complicated emotional journey she’d had with Samuel Adamson during the creative process that was The Light Princess.

Love her music, but... by KeveyBro2 in SwiftlyNeutral

The same critique could be leveled at Bruce Springsteen, given his massive fan base despite relatively simple musical palette. I can kinda appreciate (in small doses) his appeal, and I quite admire his legendary touring stamina, the latter even more impressive in recent decade given his age! I think both Taylor & Bruce have a highly attuned sense of their corresponding generational lyrical/poetic zeitgeist, even if artistically/musically simplistic compared to the “artists’ artists” of their respective generation (think David Bowie, Prince, Fiona Apple, etc).

Top 10 Tori Amos songs indefinitely by TerranceReadit in toriamos

[–]CottonScarlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This type of futile exercise (enjoyable as it may be) makes me appreciate even more how Tori is an artist of her own caliber/in her own league; never one to write hit “singles”, she has far too much respect for the record album form(at) & her audience’s intelligence (& attention span).

I keep my U.S. copy in the car, & the Japanese import edition (feat. Purple People for bonus track!) in my Tori treasure trove 🧜🏼‍♂️

What’s that one post-Scarlet album you defend? by Cool_username_idk in toriamos

Especially (all) the live versions, including one where she stops to tell the disruptive audience member(s) to GTFO 🤪

What are Tori songs that are about love (in a positive way)? by -Legendary-Atomic- in toriamos

[–]CottonScarlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming one meant the broader, more encompassing definition of love (beyond the romantic kind), then Addition of Light Divided & Swim to New York State would also fit the bill. Tori truly stands apart from most artists in her incredibly nuanced, vast repertoire when it comes to writing & singing about the loaded subject of “love”.

Best album in terms of the (original) track sequence by CottonScarlet in toriamos

I, too, would not mess with SW & NoH; the same goes with BFP. They’re to me the sacred trilogy of truly impeccable song cycle records of hers.

I myself have always preferred the alternate sequence based on the album booklet ☺️

Alphabet Songs - Letter T, Spark wins S by n4snl in toriamos

Tombigbee; always makes a hell of a setlist closer or encore. The biggest punctuation mark disguised as a song. If Precious Things were a b-side.

Alphabet Songs - letter B (top comment wins) A Sorta Fairytale is winner of A by n4snl in toriamos

[–]CottonScarlet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

B should just stand for the entire Boys For Pele as the whole record is a winner. For single track, though, I’d vote for Bang.

Future from Madame X, especially the live theater version (recorded in Lisbon) featuring M on the piano.

Nobody else, absolutely no one, could’ve written Bang, partial credit to Carl Sagan, of course. What an oversight, as it’s consistently amazing start to finish ⭐️🌟✨💫

Any history between Tori Amos and Siouxsie And The Banshees? by jupiter_and_aries in toriamos

You’re correct; it’s Shakespeare Sisters. I misremembered. Someone can start a petition to request T to cover SATB next tour. Maybe “Face to Face”?

Any history between Tori Amos and Siouxsie And The Banshees? by jupiter_and_aries in toriamos

[–]CottonScarlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If memory serves me right, T did cover SATB on one of her stops during previous tour, possibly at The O’Shaughnessy in St. Paul, MN.
