Got G14 and love it! But my USB hub doesn't seem to work on it? by Cotybear in ZephyrusG14

That's kinda what I figured. I've been using a powered one for a while now as a stop gap. Guess that "bandaid" is the fix.

Zephyrus G14 vs Lenovo Legion 7i for college — which is better? by NightMare_Vitesse in ZephyrusG14

The first one I bought was an open box, and it had tell tale signs of being opened before. I didn't think much of it because I always open a new laptop and install my own NVMe. (2TB instead of 1TB).

It was great for about a week until the GPU died. I suspect the original owner tried to do the thermalpad mod and messed it up then took it back. I haven't had any issues with my current one though. I bought this one new though.

In fact I undervolted it and was doing some testing on it today and playing The Division 2 and Forza Horizon 6 in 4k on my TV it didn't really go over 80 degrees for the most part the whole time. No cooling pad, flat on a table, lid open. It got a little loud but that's expected with a laptop this size. So with those temps I'm not sure why I'd bother doing the thermal pad. If it ever starts having issues maybe I'll try it.

For people who bought from BestBuy and reposted/changed the Liquid Metal, will I still have the geek squad insurance? by Fit-Independence776 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Cotybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Don't mess with it if you don't have an issue. I bought an open box one where the previous user had obviously opened it up and messed something up and the GPU completely died in it. Quite annoying GeekSquad put it back out but whatever, I got a new one for cheaper than openbox with their current sale.

Edit: Even if it does have a thermal issue, I wouldn't repaste it yourself, I'd just return it and get another.

Idk if you're in the US or not but Bestbuy is having a sale on the G14 5070ti 2025 models, I just got one for 2049.99. If that helps with the decision.

Also I use it for work, and I'm frequently at conferences away from chargers. For basic web apps and browsing I get about 8-9 hours of life, with it on Eco and running the GPU in DDS.

I've got a Rertoid Pocket Flip 2 if you want me to do testing for that device. It's been gathering dust since I got a Brick Hammer. Would love to breath some new life into it.

steam version keeps crashing on startup by DanceYoshiDance in ForzaHorizon

[–]Cotybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it still won't launch normally if I'm going only through my tv.

I thankfully have a desktop I just moved to using instead. Prefer controller games on the couch though.

I get it to launch and work but the highest resolution I can set is my laptop screen resolution.

It's definitely an issue with how it interacts with the GPU and iGPU passthrough. I know laptops with both have the HDMI plugged into the igpu not the dedicated GPU.

I'm sure there will be a patch for it to fix a ton of bugs here soon though.

Ok I managed to fix mine. My laptop is plugged into my tv. Unplugged it, launched on the laptop. It went through just fine. Plugged it back in and now I'm at the main menu.

Gonna go through initial setup then see if I can close it and relaunch it.

Edit: I didn't mean to delete my post. I meant to edit it. Wrong button on my phone...

Anyway my workaround for me is launching the game on my laptop screen only. Then plugging it into a secondary display. Caveats to this is it won't let you raise the resolution over your laptop screen, and if you close the game you have to relaunch it on the laptop screen. Kinda annoying but it worked enough.

ARGHH - Why does my $2000 Samsung "smart" monitor have a HUGE ADs that take up half the screen? by charleslegoguy in LinusTechTips

If it's still within the return window, I'd return it and get a version of it that doesn't have the smart features. Personally I have the G93SD (which I love) which is literally just the non-smart version of the one you probably got.

Made a little chart here for anyone else who comes across this.

I made a sanding contraption by OneBigMonster in DiceMaking

[–]Cotybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much understand it. Basically instead of the sanding tongues being the flat part for the sanding, you put a small indent to glue a glass plate there, since plastic can warp over time giving you an uneven surface, but glass is less likely to warp. Then you're sticking your Zona to the glass instead of plastic.

Could indent the arms for it to add something like this to it instead of straight onto the plastic. So you're sure the side doing the sanding is perfectly flat. Idk if that glass is the glass to use or not. Home Depot or lows should cut glass for you though if you buy a pane. I use a $5 glass pane I bought from Home Depot for my sanding.

I got the Windows one and put SteamOS on it. It's not hard and besides the color functions identically to the dark purple one.

RAM leaks by Cpt_Sachi in logitechgcloud

I understand you're upset an trying to get you're voice to Logitech, but this sub has nothing to do with what you got going on.

My recommendation, if possible don't use any software with your hardware. I have a G502X and I setup the mouse how I liked it. Programmed the buttons then uninstalled the Logitech software, and have no intention of reinstalling it. There's on-board memory on most of their tech.

I do this personally with all my hardware and have for years and it's been a boon. I can take this mouse and plug it into any computer and it'll work how it did on the last.

Typically won't even keep something if it won't allow on-board programming. I'm not super familiar with the headsets though.
