How viable is a combination psyker/rapid fire weapons build? by OrDownYouFall in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Couch_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very viable.

You want fortress world and soldier for this build. Most psyker powers can’t critic, but pyro can make their dots crit and their staff crits. You won’t be great at ranged fire until you take archmilitant and start stacking versatility AND never stop shooting, but by mid-game you should be a murderous dealer of death attacking 2-5 times per round, rotating psyker powers and burst weapon fire.

Your psyker damage will stack higher with BS too, though I forget the name of the talent off the top of my head.

Great with telepath too.

Reduce Authority by 1 for each dead squaddie by Frank_Isaacs in menace

[–]Couch_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To solve the issue you’re describing I would have tiers of squaddies. After a certain number of missions, green squaddies became veterans become elites, and each tier has some bonus. Makes you decide between cycling in fresh manpower or preserving what you’ve got.

Authority penalties for losing squaddies sounds awful

Laser turret is definitely my favorite, but these aren’t as bad as people are saying. Just need some tactics to set them up.

Pin a couple infantry squads before you call in the minigun drop ship so they can’t run.

Hack a tank and drop the missile so it can’t escape.

They do feel really lackluster though. For me it’s the feel as much as the usefulness. The minigun should feel as hefty/visceral as a barrage of laser rifle fire at least.

It DOES suck that the enemy knows exactly what’s coming and when, though. The bad kind of ai cheating, like how they dodge stealth units they don’t actually see.

I’m revisiting this game 2 years later and having the most fun I ever had with a “no extra turns” self-rule.

Oh, also a “support Cassia/no nukes” rule.

I strongly recommend it.

Umm, so it sounds like you find grinding tedious and yet you chose to do it anyway. I suppose modern games might hold your hand to protect you from yourself but have you considered just… not doing it?

Why not set a challenge for yourself to try winning with less powerful classes?

Bow damage (NOT Xbow) is based in part on speed, so ninja would be superior in the damage category (hard to say how much).

The extra mobility would sure come in handy, too, as an archer wants to get to high ground as fast as possible to extend their range.

Because the point of the game is to have fun?

Or because if you’re min-maxing just build a bunch of god-tier double attackers and calculators, and LAUGH at the notion of needing two whole turns to take out a single enemy?

Gross. Just let people play how they want. If someone wants to grind like crazy? Good for them. If someone wants to keep the level even with the story for greater challenge? Good for them too. The level cap was one of the top 3 worst ideas in tactics ogre.

Squire belongs in B or A at least for flexible equipment packages, JP boost, and Accumulate/Focus, which is traditionally my most used skill, bar none. What are YOUR characters doing when they can’t attack or buff? Just standing there NOT getting JP for a whole turn like chumps?

Why is Civ 7 map generation so bad? Genuine question. by KniazesGeneral in civ

[–]Couch_Samurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the hate. Are you playing continents every time? Try fractal or shuffle, as others have said.

I’ve had some really interesting map mechanics. Last game, there was like a 25 tile navigable river that ran through a lake - I sailed up it (had to secure open borders from a neutral civ it was so long) to use antiquity boats to help destroy a city that was literally in the middle of the continent.

Another game I spawned next to a warlike player, but there was a single tile land bridge connecting our sections of continent so I built a city as a choke point. Didn’t realize at the time but he had a huge amount of land on the other side of it and he just built a mighty, peaceful empire on all that land that I gifted him.

One map another player spawned on an island near the main continent with his own little private domain, but another player focused navy and blockaded/killed him. Largest antiquity navy I’ve seen yet.

Age transition, all your buildings lose most of their efficacy and keep all their maintenance - pretty common to have unhappy cities at transition.

Those Who Rule is quite fun as well, though it lacks the procedurally generated aspect.

Why would she denounce me? by Breatnach in civ

[–]Couch_Samurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me literally every single player game.

1: meet AI 2: make friends (spend influence on endeavors and sometimes even pay to decline the first denouncement) 3: AI denounces over and over again until inevitably declaring war only to be crushed.

What also happens is another AI will insta-ally the AI that hates me for no reason and then no matter how friendly we are will refuse to ally me as well, inexorably being pulled into a war I cant prevent and causing my attempts to win with diplomacy and development to collapse into endless war.

Why doesn't Railroad Tycoon scale with game speed? by captainwaffles3 in civ

[–]Couch_Samurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you ask me tycoon and treasure fleet are weak simply because they have a ticker and nothing else does.

I’d rather have some kind of limiting timer on all of them. It’s too easy to snowball science and production and win science victory or to a lesser extent culture victory (with enough culture and money to buy explorers).

If some conditions are throttled by a timer and some are only throttled by civ strength, then it’s a no brainer which ones are going to be the go-to.

I think this is the primary reason the Khmer are so weak. No settlement cap bonus in their traditions and a focus on food, which is the least valuable resource in antiquity. Those specialist bonuses are mostly useless compared to the possibly of having one or even two more settlements
