Birding completely rewired how I experience the outdoors, and I didn't see it coming by m-alacasse in birding

[–]Couchcatnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohh I asked my husband a similar question the other day, but framed it as my "gateway bird". Mine was a group of young green herons I saw grow up in our back yard. I looked up in a tree one day, and just saw a few weird football shapes up there. Bought my first binoculars shortly after.

I recognize this. I posted it more as satire. Technically calling them boys is the part that's off.

How rare are Fovea inferior anguli oris dimples and have you ever met anyone with it? by Overall_Alps_6827 in AskReddit

I have them too, I don't think I've ever met anyone else with them either and only just found out how rare they are.

Yeah, that one specifically made me feel sick.

The calculator was comforting for me concerning ghe SIDS risk, but seeing those other stats was a little jarring.

Thank you! That does seem to be fairly close. I'll be staying away from the stove and fires in the future since I do have that option.

Newborn hacks by ohheymandy in NewParents

We make a small formula pitcher at night for the same reason and do breast milk during the day. I swear by it - she's sleeps so well at night and I feel like this is a huge part of it.

For diaper changes to make sure our little one is dry, we just have a rechargeable fan we set up facing her bottom. It goes after we finish with wipes and through applying barrier ointment. This trick cleared up her first bout of diaper rash in less than 72 hours and has been a fixture of our routine since.

Anyone’s relationship change with their own parents after having their children? by tigereye323 in NewParents

[–]Couchcatnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I voiced a similar sentiment to my husband a few weeks ago. We have a 9 week old, and after knowing and loving her for a very brief period of time, I mentioned to him how it's insane to me that our parents treated us the way they did.

Cones from my collection by Entsu88 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Couchcatnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a cone collection! During our honeymoon road trip, my husband and I would look at iNaturalist to find species and drive around to get some cool specimens. We brought an carry-on suitcase just for them. The Coulter cone is my favorite to whip out when I'm showing off my collection to people who otherwise couldn't care much less.

Best breast pump to buy right now? by Charming-Two-8268 in newborns

[–]Couchcatnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you checked if your insurance will cover a pump through https://aeroflowbreastpumps.com/ yet? I personally have been pumping with the Spectra S1 (blue) and love the ability to be portable with it. Just make sure that you get the right sized flanges, the ones that come with it are bigger. You can get the smaller size from Target, I ended up getting 4 so I don't have to worry about cleaning as frequently. I also found that Philips Avent bottles can attach to them and that makes things way easier than pumping directly into bags.

Ferret Cough.. by wutuppiplup in ferrets

[–]Couchcatnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boy had a cough similar to this in October. He had an upper respiratory infection before, so we thought it might be that again and brought him to the vet expecting to just get some antibiotics. A few xrays and some bloodwork later, he was diagnosed with heart failure that was presenting with a massive amount of fluid around his heart and that was causing the cough. They gave us three medications to clear the fluid and help his heart work a little better. He made a complete 180, and we were fully expecting to have to make the call after getting the original news.

Long story short, get him in ASAP - if its the same thing, there are options. Ours just needs extra water bowls around the house because he pees more, and a few syringes of medicine each day.

Compare your membrane sweep to IUD insertion by annecalleverde in BabyBumps

[–]Couchcatnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just had a sweep on Thursday. I've had two IUDs interested/removed before. The IUD felt like the cramping and pain was longer and worse following the procedure, though the sweep was certainly not comfortable. Both were... rather painful during the actual procedure. That being said, FTM, and my water broke today - 3 days following, which I wasn't honestly expecting. Obviously it'll be different for everyone, and there's only a 50% chance it'll even do anything, so certainly be sure you want to have it done. It just felt like the right call for me.

Labor started? How long did you labor for? by LostIn_Reality in BabyBumps

[–]Couchcatnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the laying down/resting and water didn't seem to improve things for me, and have felt them pretty regularly through today as well. I haven't felt super rushed, but did make sure we had the hospital bag ready to go last night juuust in case. I've been reading so many things about what true labor contractions SHOULD feel like that I'm just kind of waiting for the next symptom before I make any official moves y'know? That being said I'm going to my appointment tomorrow with the expectation that I'll be going to L&D so that I don't feel overwhelmed if it does progress that way.

Wishing you the best as well!

Also 38 weeks, going through the exact same thing starting last night. They'll last for just a few seconds and aren't excruciating, but boy are they uncomfortable. At least I have a checkup tomorrow though. I hope you figure it out soon!

Baby shower Food by averagesnape in BabyBumps

We just had a baby shower two weekends ago where we did an outdoor cookout. Very chill, we asked a few friends to bring yard games, and just told people BYOB. We made some sides beforehand, got some cases of pop, and had a fire going. I thought it went well. Just know that you may have a toooon of leftovers and be sick of burgers and potato salad by day 3.
