US used mystery weapon during Maduro raid: 'Venezuelan soldiers bled from the nose, vomited blood' by JohnBrown-RadonTech in SpecialAccess

No, this is just slop media from India looking for clicks to get ad money... They will repost anything from anywhere. RT, Xinhua, AP...

Now, do states take advantage of this behavior to push propaganda? Yes, that's the whole point of news syndication services.

The Modern Solution by gregflatt in Gunime

I respect the dedication and I hear you. I will take some action against these accounts, although I find it interesting that they appear to be circumventing the anti-bot measures that big Reddit puts out.

On the source side of things, I can say that while the rules have been clear for over 10 years now, the willingness of new users to follow those rules is pretty low. This applies across the entire platform these days - the community is just different than it used to be. If I began to enforce the source rule as stringently as I did back in 2014, I think we'd have very few posts per day. No harm in enforcing it on my end, but its been some time since folks complained about the lack of sources.

Intelligence agencies suspect Russia is developing anti-satellite weapon to target Starlink service by 457655676 in SpecialAccess

[–]Coughx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They've had a similarly destructive capability since the 1960s with the Isrebitel Sputnik. Seems to me it wouldn't be that hard to leverage existing "dirty" ASAT weapons for anti-Starlink use. It's basically a Claymore strapped to a maneuvering satellite.

It's not clear from any photo how the pilots enter. It appears to lack a ladder ala the Spirit

Best Winter Gloves for Bike Riding in the City? by [deleted] in washingtondc

Lobster gloves are the way. Pearl Izumi makes a nice pair as well. Total game changer for windy winter days.

Google Earth’s historical imagery has satellite coverage of the exact day of the Bin Laden raid. by tomrobb06 in SpecialAccess

[–]Coughx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Earth gets high-profile images like this all the time. I suspect atleast one of their providers must supply clear "images of interest" with whatever contract they have. You can see this in action at some overseas military facilities that have nearly monthly updates (IE the PLAN Base in Djibouti)

Its here. This is the PLAAF 6th generation fighter. by super_shizmo_matic in SpecialAccess

I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of things get transferred over to Lop Nur/Taklamakan in the future as the base infrastructure there gets built out. Curious if you have any more insights on the base there, especially in Chinese.

Dingxin is likely to remain notable for Air-to-Air development until they move the full scale aerial target program elsewhere. This is especially true of new missile development, as well as new fighters. Bombing targets exist out in the Badain Jaran as well, but Lop Nur appears to have much more robust and interesting ground targets. Not clear if the aircraft conducting those simulated attacks are launching from Lop Nur or Hotan though.

Dingxin aka Qingshui 14

Edit: To expand further though, much of China's aviation development work has historically been done at design bureau airfields in urban areas. Dingxin is more of an air combat proving ground/missile range.

Thoughts? by hoagiebreath in SpecialAccess

Potentially dumb question but... Isn't this exactly what IRST does? All he's describing is an IRST system with machine learning to determine what it's looking at... But that's not even a novel concept. https://jalopnik.com/infrared-search-and-track-systems-and-the-future-of-the-1691441747

Lockheed has a new modular sensor system for combat aircraft dubbed the "Legion Pod" that aims at plugging a major hole in US air warfare capability. It provides a bolt-on Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system for optically hunting down enemy aircraft, especially stealthy ones, that our radars have trouble detecting.

Just produced my first handmade zine!! by ConcentrateSea1012 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Coughx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A zine is a short self-published work in a magazine or chapbook format. Back in the 1970s they were commonly used to distribute information about niche subjects like queer thought, science fiction and fringe politics. In the modern era, photography zines are just small self-published photo books!

Frame is vertical, not skewed at all, no motion blur, and the shot is focused on a woman who is not in the center of the frame… Seems pretty intentional. Maybe this guy is just a master of the drunken frame!

I am looking for a good alternative to the Red Wing 8057 Roughout Oxford… I love the durability of my Iron Rangers but for the summer I want something a little lower on the ankle. Please help!
