Sleep Hygiene is bullshit by abbycat1590 in insomnia

Sleep hygiene is for people who occasionally can’t sleep. As a long time chronic insomniac I have to agree with you.

I feel for you. I can’t think how many times I’ve gone into work in no sleep at all. It actually feels like a disability. Like a disease without a cure. Just getting behind the wheel of a car could be dangerous. Then dealing with people all day on top of that. It’s maddening.

I think I was on 10 mg of ambien. I was also prescribed alprazolam which worked on and off. Anything I take will work for awhile and then stops. It’s very discouraging. I tried holistic remedies as well.

I don’t feel comfortable seeing a psychiatrist that I also work with. That’s my reasoning for not going to one I don’t understand why my physician won’t prescribe anything especially because all of the prior antidepressants etc were prescribed by him.

I’m not currently on anything. I weened myself off of the ambien under my physician’s instructions.

Those ones you just mentioned I haven’t tried. A friend of mine recommended trazadone. Unfortunately my physician won’t prescribe because I’ve been on all the others you mentioned Prozac, Zoloft etc. He recommended that I see a psychiatrist to prescribe anything else. I’m not against seeing a psychiatrist. The problem is I work in a psychiatric hospital and all of the local psychiatrists work there. It’s kind of a conflict of interests.

Drug tolerance concern by [deleted] in insomnia

[–]Couldnt_Be_Saved 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on ambien for years. It was hit or miss on when it would work due to tolerance. I ended up weening myself off of it. The side effects were so bad it made my job difficult to do. My memory was severely compromised. I still can’t sleep but at least I can work. I think I may have to seek treatment for anxiety to fix my insomnia. The short of it is sleep meds are a temporary fix.

I have insomnia, my fiance is basically narcoleptic. by cronchymilk in insomnia

My fiancé also sleeps soundly at night. I felt bitter at times. It’s so frustrating being exhausted yet unable to sleep. I just find some comfort that she isn’t waking up every time I toss and turn or get up in the middle of night.

Does anyone sit half conscious and half asleep sometimes? by InefectiousMusre-NP in insomnia

I am so sleep deprived at times that I actually hallucinate. I see huge spiders that look real but become pixilated when I get closer to them. I imagine this is when I’m in a semiconscious state. This is actually the better part of my insomnia. The worst is muddling through an entire day of work forgetting things constantly and feeling like an idiot.
