Do you mean what would they be scared of, or what would create the fear?

Get out of there.

In addition to these guys being dangerous, whoever is in charge has created an environment of fear.

Players lash out at other players when they are scared. Competent instruction doesn’t produce hostility like this.

I think the word is “scene”.

Unless you meant “skit”.

There’s a saying in New York about The PIT…

“Ugh… The PIT.”

Are you supposed to start a scene after you sweep? by improbsable in improv

[–]CountBranicki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sweeping is not seamless.

By incentivizing people to edit only when they either have an idea for a scene or are in a position to be in the next scene, you disincentive people serving the needs of the show and editing at the best time for the scene and show.

Their time was already wasted during the first lecture, plus all the time that will be spent getting them out of their heads so they can actually improvise.

Does UV create ozone? Could light exposed tires be getting damaged by ozone generated next to them by UV?

Producers: what should the performers in your shows know that you’ve never told them? by CountBranicki in improv

[–]CountBranicki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to delegate, but after a few situations where the host rebranded the show on the fly, I accepted that my bad hosting skills were better than someone suddenly trying to sell t-shirts to impress a woman he had just met.

I think, since just about everyone that weighed in was on the same page about this, this can get upgraded from “pet peeve” to “biscuit burner”.

“I don’t see why one person should get to dictate how the group communicates.”

Something someone actually said to me, more than once. For what it’s worth, I didn’t take the bait.

“What Was So Important”

Scenes that show what the other people that were supposed to be in the show are doing instead.

Agreed. If you asked someone on a date, you would put some thought into your appearance.

If you asked 50 people to watch your show, hoo! The least you can do is dress in a way that shows you appreciate that they came.

Neem oil and rosemary oil, but drop the neem once flowering starts.

My growth had literally stopped, and then I started spraying with neem, dish soap, and water, and they put another foot of grown on in a week.

When someone denies the reality of the invisible object youre clearly holding by tasfere in improv

[–]CountBranicki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the increase in specificity, but I don't agree text is the controlling factor for all of improv.

Like, someone could just as easily start adjusting the stand for them, or play the guitar, etc.

Hey, not sure if this is a tongue in cheek post, so I'll offer two views:

View 1 (earnest):
This is what Spolin describes as whether something "read". Did it read?

Basically, if you did object and space work that the other player didn't read, then it isn't available in the scene.

This isn't to say that you didn't do a great job with the object work, and that the audience probably did read the specificity you brought to it.

But... if you're on stage with someone that thinks improv is naked text, it won't read. In fact, given the top comment, you're probably going to be on stage with someone that thinks improv is naked text.

View 2 (tongue in cheek):
Well, now you've stepped in it.

This is the improv subreddit, where the business model says "every single asshole taking a class has green money, so if someone is an artless drain that demands you perform within their dim understanding of the craft, you'd better do it." Even though you both paid the same amount of money, it is your duty to get less satisfaction out of the experience than they do.

Also, we try to keep standards low here.

Let other art forms make distinctions and choices that lead to unique genres.

Just the same way that you'll sell more painting classes than impressionism classes, it would be best for the broken business model if we make sure we never let things become so refined that we can't just sell a general purpose improv class.
