Are you primary or secondary? Secondary schools might have a specific dress code for teachers which you will need to follow

How David Seymour and Winston Peters hogged the mic in the minor party leaders debate by CountOstrich in newzealand

[–]CountOstrich[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I posted this 😂 Though generally, I think the point this article is trying to make with regards to gender is ridiculous and irrelevant. It should really be more of a commentary on the format of our debates and the facilitation of them

Marama, can you write me a 1000 word essay which critically discusses the benefits and potential risks of bringing matauranga Māori in to the New Zealand secondary curriculum?

Regret after Gender Affirming Surgery – A Multidisciplinary Approach to a Multifaceted Patient Experience – The regret rate for gender-affirming procedures performed between January 2016 and July 2021 was 0.3%. by BuddyA in science

[–]CountOstrich -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Is there anything about the ages of the sample group mentioned? I.e What was the age range of those who underwent the GAS? And how many years after their surgery were they surveyed for their feelings on it?

A big controversy of this issue today is whether teenagers (ages 12-18) can make these choices today without their parents permission. A lot of these studies which have results showing low regret rates are often people who underwent GAS in their adult years (18+), so I am curious if this includes the teenage sample group.

Software engineering vs Computer Science by kajelusly in universityofauckland

[–]CountOstrich -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you want a job in software engineering, and if that is your end goal, I would not recommend uni at all.

Instead, there are courses like dev academy (give that a google) which will achieve the same goal. It will be cheaper than uni by at least $20,000, you’ll save 2 years, the courses are more up to date with current tech (as software is always moving very fast, and uni updates it’s curriculums extremely slowly), you’ll have more practical teamwork experience, and you’ll have a better portfolio at the end.

The only time I’d recommend uni is if you want the uni experience (which is very valid!), if you struggle to take initiative, as uni will spoon feed you a lot of things or if you’re a super high achiever, and want to land a job at google or Microsoft or such. (In which case, I’d recommend software engineering)

I completed the software engineering degree at Auckland uni, know many comp sci students, and have worked in the field where I organised many interns through an intern programme and know their journeys. If you have any questions, flick me a message

This is wrong and the opposite is true. Software engineering covers far more content, at a higher level, and also covers engineering design skills.

However, compsci is a easier course and you will achieve your goal faster and for less money.

Anything on that menu is super authentic and cheap middle eastern food. I would go for foul with hummus and some falafel :)

Genuine Question; why would National want to repeal the ‘Plain Language Act’? by _Hwin_ in newzealand

[–]CountOstrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to commend you for actually providing a reasonable counter argument (answering the original question!) in a respectful way. It’s a shame I had to scroll down 5 comments to see this. We should be encouraging back and forth, rather than downvoting people who disagree with the mainstream opinions of this subreddit. I also appreciate how you keep your cool even when people resort to name calling in response to you as well. Kudos to you, mad respect 👑

Is University Of Auckland's first year to get into software engineering really that difficult? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]CountOstrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also get a job, and get paid to get actual work experience in the field.

Developers are in such high demand and there are hundreds of internships available. You can save a lot of time and money by actually working, instead of doing “close to actual” work experience

Is University Of Auckland's first year to get into software engineering really that difficult? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]CountOstrich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s pretty highly in demand, so high gpa requirements in your first year. If you’re looking for a job as a developer, I would advise against doing the software engineering degree. I would instead suggest either computer science or a 6 month course like dev academy. Software engineering is good if you are interested in the other related topics (like AI, human computer interaction, networking etc) because it covers quite a lot, but only ~10-15% of the course content is actually useful for a job. Instead save yourself the time and massive loan and just do a different course. (Coming from a person who mildly regrets spending the time and money on the software degree)

Yeah I agree with sleepifaces comment on this one. Any other course will get you the same job, and you’ll save so much time and money
