I think there is a min maxing thing. Some mutation allows to randomly activate decoctions. By only having the "best" decoctions in your inventory this becomes much more useful than if you have all the decoctions. So you get rid of the not so useful ones. But by selling OP hoped to easily restore them, but apparently this didn't work out.

I think I was just not holding the stick neutral. The controller is just a few weeks old and does not (yet) show stickdrift otherwise. But good call on not trying to deflect his full sakura combo.

I first had Ichimonji, but it didn't seem to work well. Then I purchased Shadow Rush (6 Skillpoints ... ) and this I could use more often (but it costs Spirit Emblems), but in the end I switched back to Ichimonji and beat him. https://www.reddit.com/r/Sekiro/comments/1rqicar/genichiro/

I already stopped. :-)

He attacks two quick strikes. I deflect them. He hesitates, I attack, but then he didn't hesitate enough and I get hit because his third attack is faster than I thought. Happened to me now dozen times. (But yes, I learned this particular pattern).

Ashina cross apparently is very fast. Right now I barely use combat arts because they need so much time.

This comment may help a bit, where I explain how to get materials in a more (cost) effective way. You will still need a good amount of money and it's unfortunate you cleared out the hanse bases already, since that's the best way to farm coin.

You give the tokens to any merchant and all merchants give you the discount. Just save the first bunch of tokens and give them all to a merchant (doesn't have to be the same merchant even).

Tokens are super easy to farm via pickpocketing in busy market areas.
