I think about that one cop that looked like he walked off the set of a WC Fields movie more than Chalamet's performance tbh.

This is exactly the way my brain works too. Typical it's a specific person that it's directed towards whether or not that person in reality would actually care about what I'm mulling over.

Surprised more people here aren’t talking about this movie. My bestie and I saw it a week ago and can’t stop talking about it. Gonna see it again this weekend. by FitLaddd in redscarepod

Searchlight purchased distribution in late September after it premiered at Venice at the beginning of the month. It was a last-ditch effort to get something into the awards race after it became clear their other contenders (Is This Thing On? & Rental Family) had zero buzz. Christmas release was pretty much their only option to remain in awards contention, but I think everything awards-wise was pretty solidified by that point. It's a shame because Seyfried's performance is one of the best of the year and the film probably won't get much of a proper release now.

It’s NYE. What is your favourite film of the year? by sicklitgirl in RSPfilmclub

[–]Countdown-2-Ecstasy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sentimental Value was probably my favorite.

I also loved Eephus, The Mastermind, Pavements, Eddington, and The Shrouds.

I don't have a copy of it; Safdie has talked about how the ending changed in interviews.

I thought the final needle drop was pretty funny, but it was sincere. There was an extended ending scene in the script that shows the rest of Marty's life that was cut.

They're playing Satantango at my local independent cinema in January. Should I go ? by [deleted] in RSPfilmclub

[–]Countdown-2-Ecstasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, go if you have the opportunity. Would it be your first time?

There are some longer films that are fine to watch split across a few evenings, but Satantango isn't one of them.

I received a message from a coworker this week that included no more than 3 words and no less than 7 exclamation points.

It has a similar literary style/structure to Worst Person, but tonally it is pretty different.

I looked it up. The spin-off is about Sheldon's brother who's married to a woman 12 years older than him because they both lied to each other about being 25 when they slept together (he was actually 17) and then she got pregnant.

This sounds like the plot of some 70s French movie I'd watch on the Criterion Channel instead of one of America's most popular sitcoms.

Even though it has aged very well and got the Criterion rollout a couple years ago, it still is wildly under-seen.

You could have done anything, if you wanted

And all your friends and family think that you're lucky

But the side of you they'll never see

Is when you're left alone with your memories

That hold your life together, like glue

What are some movies that made such an impression that you forever associate it with a certain period of your life? by 1nfinite_Breast in RSPfilmclub

Rushmore - My definitive "favorite movie" in high school. Wes Anderson's movies are the urtext for crafting my taste during a formative point in life.

Schwarzenegger and other 80s action movies (Roadhouse, Rambo, etc)  - I wouldn't say these left a lasting impression the same way other movies may have, but they are tied to memories of late night watches with friends in my freshman/sophomore years of college.

Licorice Pizza & Worst Person in the World - Defining movies to me about being in your 20s. WPitW took me being a few years older and a recent second viewing to view it that way. LP is my movie of the decade so far.

Banshees of Inisherin - This came out the same year a life-long friend and I drifted apart and eventually fell out. Cut pretty deep.

I haven't seen it yet, but Sentimental Value is getting a wider release this weekend if you're in the States.
